Our very own Fr Mark Baumgarten is a talented musician. A self-taught pianist, he worked as a musician prior to entering seminary, and the lockdown of 2020 inspired a return to songwriting. His debut album, Now and Not Yet, could be seen as a kind of musical autobiography, with songs that trace his path from youthful searching to a priestly vocation.
Fr Mark’s songs are not “church music”, and they certainly are not intended for use in the liturgy. They simply aim to be the kind of music he likes to listen to – well-crafted songs that touch on deeper themes – and they cover a variety of genres including blues, ballads, gospel, rock and pop.
His new album, The Little Ones, will be released on the 3rd of May.
Fr Mark will be launching this new album of original songs with a concert on the evening of Saturday 4th of May. He will be joined by several accomplished musicians, including many who helped record the album.
The concert will be held in the St Francis Xavier Parish Hall (279 Forrest Road, Hilbert). The concert will begin at 7.30pm, with doors opening at 7pm. Tickets are $10 standard, $40 for a family pass, and children under 12 are free.
