A Glimpse - Year 6 Student
As I walk up the steps to a new beginning, I feel the pressure of expectations weigh me down. Worried thoughts begin to fill my head, what if I don’t like it? What will my new teacher be like? Then I start to think of all the possibilities and memories I am about to make. Slowly but steadily, I grip the cold handrail tightly making my way to the top of the stairs.
I can hear basketballs bouncing outside as I trudge my way to the front of the sparkling, red door. I reach out and clutch the shining, metal door handle. I could hear my heart pounding in my chest like an elephant stomping down the hall behind me. Worries were bubbling in my mind. Full to the brim of panic and concern. As I push down the cold door handle and open the door, excited chatter fills my ears. I quickly dash toward the olive-green lockers, hoping to save myself from awkward conversation, when a joyful smile from my teacher welcomes me in. Maybe this isn't so bad after all…
First Play , Year 6 Student
The warmth from the sun is shining above me. I am sitting in a large field of fake grass. I can see trees in the distance that are bald, as leaves hurriedly fall to the ground. The breeze carries the dancing leaves to their satisfied destination. It is my first recess back at school for the year.
As I am observing my surroundings, I can see mouths opening and closing. Walking legs step one after the other, racing to see their friends. I hear laughter around me. I see fluffy, white cotton candies hovering brightly above me. The smiling faces are shouting across the area while I am chatting to my best friend. My smile springs widely across my face and my mouth sighing in relief, knowing that everything is alright back at school.
I feel my heart beat out of my chest in amazement. I wonder about the exciting and new year ahead in Grade six.
