Year 6 Camp

Canberra, the Nation’s Capital!

Jacqueline Tan and Sascha Ducquet, Year 6

Recently, the Year 6 students had their annual trip to Canberra. We would love to tell you what happened on this educational experience! The Year 6s stayed in Canberra Park accommodation along with Plenty Campus Year 6s. On the wonderful journey, we went to places such as the Old and New Parliament House, High Court, National Arboretum Canberra, Mount Stromlo Observatory, Australian Institute of Sport (A.I.S), Royal Australian Mint, National Art Gallery, National Capital Exhibition, National Electoral Educational Centre, Mount Ainslie and Questacon.

The two most popular activities were Questacon and the A.I.S. At Questacon, the gift shop made everyone go nuts! There were all sorts of fun things such as caged lightning, free fall slide, AI exhibits and lots of educational games. At the A.I.S, we saw professionals play volleyball, the strength and conditioning gym, the 50m long swimming pool and met many elite level athletes! Then we got to play in the Institution’s Game Centre, where we had played sport games and had the time of our lives!

To close out our amazing week, we visited the Australian War Memorial, and attended an ANZAC ceremony to honour the sacrifice of the fallen soldiers. It was a very sacred moment, and we had a minute of silence. Our School Captains, Oriana Briganti and Evan Theofilakos, placed a wreath of flowers on the grave of the Unknown Soldier who died in France to honour their sacrifice on behalf of the school.

Overall, the Year 6 Camp was so much fun!
