P&F News

It was great to see many of you at our Day One Term Two Coffee Van on Tuesday morning.

It’s always nice catching up after the holidays.

The main part of this report is a recap of the fun we had on the last day of last term with our Colour Run, please see the pictures below.

The Year Seven dads have a catch-up at Inswing organised for this Friday at 5.30pm watching Adelaide v Essendon. Hope to see many of you there.

We will be in touch in the coming weeks about our activities for this term including guest speaker Claire Eaton.

Dads in the Great Southern (DIGS)

The topic of April's DIGS meeting was "Dad Dates".  This powerful concept from the Fathering project identifies that spending quality time with Dad (or another father figure) holds a special place in a child's heart.

Some of the key elements of Dad dates are:

- One child at a time with no-one else and no interruptions.

- Schedule it!  Even consider writing it down on a calendar or sticking a note on the fridge.

- Focus and be engaged.  Turn off your phone and avoid other distractions.

- Keep it simple.  Take them out for lunch, visit a local attraction or just go for a walk.

- Do what they want to do.  Let the child choose the activity and then commit to it with enthusiasm.

Other ideas include:

- Work on a project together, making or building something even if that takes multiple "dates".

-  Find an activity that you enjoy doing together such as regular Gym sessions with an older child.

-  Occasionally do something more extravagant.  Take them on a weekend away, to a    concert or an event they're interested in.
