Primary School

Welcome back to Term Two!

I hope the holidays were well spent with rest and family time, and the students have returned ready to take on the 11 weeks of Term Two. Our teachers have spent their holidays preparing exciting events for our students. It is a busy term and we are grateful for the class preparation and experiences our students will have ahead of them.

Our ECC is looking beautiful; our dedicated teachers have gone above and beyond to create dynamic learning spaces with a nice mix of explicit and inquiry learning experiences.

In Kindergarten, our students are enjoying their Vet home corner whilst learning about how they can express themselves with their own creative talents.

In Pre-Primary, the class is learning about who they are and what makes up their families.

Our Year One students were excited to see that a giant beanstalk had grown in their classroom and have been focusing their Talk for Writing on the model text Jack and the Beanstalk

Year Twos are becoming mad scientists with a George’s Marvellous Medicine provocation inspiring their work on mixtures.

Next week, I look forward to sharing the experiences on offer for our Years Three to Six students.

Upcoming Events – Save the Dates

The calendar is packed out this term. Below is a summary of the events for the first five weeks of term.

Wednesday 24 April from 11.30am - Whole School Cross Country

Students from Pre-Primary to Year Twelve will run in this event. Students are asked to wear their House shirts and appropriate footwear, and bring a change of shoes and clothes if the weather looks wet. Families are encouraged to come and support on the day. Pre-Primary and Year One students will run 500m, Year Two and Year Three 1km, Years Four and Five 2km, and Years Five and Six 3km.

Primary School Interschool Cross Country will take place in Week Ten, giving the team plenty of time to train.

Thursday 25 April - ANZAC Day (Pupil Free Day)

Students are encouraged to watch the School Leaders march at various services across the Great Southern.

Friday 26 April - Djinda to Year Six Grandparents’ Day

We are excited to host Grandparents’ Day for our Primary School students and recognise the village it takes to raise our students. This date has carefully been selected to allow for grandparents who may live out of town to travel. Kindergarten families will have a similar experience in June which Mrs Hayley Ranger will communicate out in time. Those families who cannot logistically have a grandparent attend on the day are welcome to invite a special friend or family member along instead.

Grandparents/special friends are welcome in classrooms at 9.00am to be a part of some fun activities organised by classroom teachers before having an early picnic morning tea with the children at 10.45am. Weather permitting, we encourage grandparents to bring a picnic rug and a prepared morning tea to share on the grass areas of the playgrounds.

We ask that our ECC students have their siblings and grandparents eat in their usual Friday playground.

At 11.00am, our students will farewell their guests and resume their usual recess activities.

An email with a link for RSVPs will be sent to all families.

Thursday 2 May - Orienteering

Select students will participate in this event in the morning, held in town.

Various dates - Eagles Cup

Eagles Cup is back. A select team of Years Five and Six students will play games every second week on a Thursday at 1.30pm at various schools before the finals in Week Nine. Thank you to Mr Hardey for coaching our Eagles Cup team this year.

Friday 3 May - Foundation Day and Running of the Flags

The School will be celebrating its 26th birthday with cake, an assembly and the annual Running of the Flags. The assembly is in the Multi-Purpose Sport Complex, starting at 1.45pm and is open to all families, with the Running of the Flags beginning at 2.30pm in the Quadrangle.

Well done to the students selected from Years Two and Six to run for their House on the day. Please can they attend on this day in the House shirt and PE uniform.
