Victorian Teacher Supply and Demand Report 2023

If the results from the 2023 Principal Health, Safety and Wellbeing report present grim findings, then the recently released Victorian Teacher Supply and Demand Report 2022 will offer little uplift.  The report highlights significant challenges and opportunities within the education sector. Key findings indicate a growing discrepancy between the supply of qualified teachers and the increasing demand driven by rising student enrolments and educational reforms. Particularly acute are shortages in secondary schools and special education.

The report emphasizes the impact of attrition rates, with many leaving the profession citing workload and wellbeing concerns. It recommends strategic initiatives to attract and retain talent, including enhanced professional development, support structures, and competitive remuneration packages. The Victorian government has committed to addressing these issues, recognising the crucial role of teachers and principals in shaping the future workforce.
