Year 5/6 Cluster News

HOME INQUIRY

READING: Aim for 20 minutes minimum reading per night. As students complete a book, they are to record the author, title and date of finishing in their Readers’ Workshop book. We encourage students to read aloud, either to themselves or a parent.

Teacher/Parent Interviews: Thank you for taking the time to come and meet with us as teachers. This time is a great opportunity for us to all meet to ensure each child is working towards their full potential. This can only be done with a positive partnership between school and home.

5/6NZ next week: Next week Mrs. Zadow will be attending camp. Therefore Mr. Jon Schutz will be in teaching on Monday and Ms. Neumann will be in teaching on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Unit Of Inquiry: Students have begun their new, ‘Sharing the Planet’ unit with the central idea, ‘External forces influence life.’ This unit is about different biomes, their features, resources and how they are impacted by change. Students have continued to explore biomes and how food webs interact in a biome

Literacy: Students are investigating reading non-fiction texts, looking at effective note taking while reading and applying their knowledge to form well-structured paragraphs. This has been beneficial to their research on biomes.

Mathematics: Students will be consolidating their times table recall and looking for patterns.

Chrisitan Studies: Students are working towards finalising their learning on sin and grace. Students will be creating their own scenarios that include a sin and identifying what grace a Christian may show in that circumstance. They will be spending time finding evidence in the bible that would support their information.

Touch Typing: As we have started touch typing, it has become evident that a number of students don’t have a working keyboard. The iPad keyboard will be important in the development of keyboard skills which will be part of their class learning. Headphones will also be regularly used in class for a variety of purposes. Again, thank you for helping with this.

Yours sincerely,
