Physics in Motion: Exploring Luna Park

By Michelle Farrand (VCE Co-ordinator)

The Year 12 Physics class went on an excursion to Luna Park last week Friday.

Luna Park’s Annual VCE Physics Days have been designed to provide students with practical examples of some of the concepts covered in ‘Motion in one and two dimensions’ and ‘How fast can things go?’

There were plenty of rides, with some being gentle, and others having us wish we did not have breakfast!

Checkmate Champions: Highlights from the CSEN Chess Tournaments

By Jenny Simmons (Secondary Teacher)

The Primary and Secondary CSEN chess tournaments were held at St Andrews Christian College last week. Students played seven games each over the span of the day, with the aggregate of the top five students from each school determining the final scores.

St Andrews Christian College was the winning school of the primary division whilst Waverley Christian College (Wantirna) was the winner of the secondary division. Our teams fought well and all students won or drew at least one game. Our enthusiastic Primary team came in seventh whilst our secondary team came sixth.

Congratulations to all our students who competed, with special congratulations to our top individual players, who were awarded medals:

Primary - Henry M, Hudson H (both in Year 6).

Secondary - Daniel C (Yr 12), Tom W (Yr 11), Lucas L (Yr 10), Jack T (Yr 10), Shaun L (Yr 10) and Riley J (Yr 9)

Individual results: Hudson H (Yr 6) won 4 games out of 7 - our only student to win more games than lost! Well done Hudson!

Surf's Up for Year 9 Students

By Ben White (Year 9 Program Co-ordinator)

Last month, our Year 9 students set off for Burnside Baptist Camp in Anglesea, for the annual Surf Camp. Nestled along the stunning coastline, this year's campers experienced perfect weather conditions, which set the stage for a great time away.

The camp featured several activities including surfing lessons, ocean kayaking, a high ropes course and archery. Students gained new skills and feelings of accomplishment as they stepped out of their comfort zones and a sense of community developed as the camp progressed. The Year 9 Surf Camp was a memorable experience, filled with adventure, learning, and fun.

Learning Adventures at Chesterfield Farm

By Jackie Eastwood (Secondary Science Teacher)

Earlier this month 14 Year 10 Agricultural science students visited Chesterfield Farm for a day of hands-on learning. They milked cows, learned about drenching, met working dogs, and interacted with various farm animals. The students were engaged, learned a lot, and had a great time. Here are some of their comments and photos from the day.

I really enjoyed the excursion, it was a fun hands-on learning experience. I especially loved the dog show! Kaitlyn S

I really enjoyed yesterday. Seeing all the animals was amazing and especially seeing a pony that looked like mine. It was a fun day. Montaya K

I had lots of fun experiences learning about all the different farm animals. Ella B

I really enjoyed the excursion to Chesterfield Farm on Monday. It was extremely interesting to learn about how they maintain the farm and animals and watching how the sheep dogs rounded up the sheep. Kayla A

I really enjoyed my time at Chesterfield Farm, we were greeted with a talking cockatoo and watched many funny things like a goat escaping the nursery. I have to say that I mostly enjoyed when the little goat was on my back while giving me a massage. Shaun L
