Specialist Classes

STEM

Miss Wooden has really enjoyed beginning STEM this term with all of the students. They were excited to begin their science subject exploring the Earth and Space. The lower year levels have begun creating seasonal calendars, learning the months of the year, and how to represent the seasons. The Year 3 and 4 classes have been thinking about the impact from human activity on the Earth and the positive and negative effects we have had. We had a great lesson creating a mini Earth and discussing why it is called a blue planet. The higher year levels have been building their technology skills but finding data and transferring it into a graph. They have researched different weather conditions and how we measure this. It has been a great start and I am looking forward to some experiments. 

ITALIAN

In Italian all students are learning to greet and farewell others in various situations.  We have engaged in conversations beginning with, “Ciao, come stai oggi?” (Hi, how are you today?) and an appropriate response.  Over the next few weeks students will be  adding extra conversation starters to their repertoire.  Other greetings to practise at home are: buonanotte: good night,  arrivederci: goodbye, a presto: see you soon, graze: thankyou, prego: you’re welcome.

SPORT

 This term we have begun building on our hand-eye coordination while playing basketball. We have a basketball team representing St Patrick’s on Friday so good luck! We have been practising our ball skills and focusing on being aware of our dribbling. The students work really well as a team as they pass the ball around and spend out over the court. Our inquiry focus this term is music so the lower year levels are combining their basketball skills and understanding a beat. Students will be working on bouncing the ball to the beat of the music while demonstrating their ball skills. All of the students were tested this week on their teamwork and communication. It was awesome to see everyone take on the challenge and to work together. Thanks for a great start!

ART

This week we had our Specialist Showcase and what an amazing celebration of our work in Art, STEM, Italian and PE it was! The pride on the students faces when they saw their artwork framed, a photo of them participating in a sporting event, showing a family member how to say something in Italian or how something they made in STEM works- was incredible to see! Well done to the students on all their amazing work and thank you to the family and friends that came along.
