Socktober Mission Event: Kick Goals for a Cause!

St Patrick's is excited to host our Socktober Mission event on Monday, 28th October. This special day invites students to wear their craziest socks and bring a gold coin donation to support Catholic Mission's important work. Throughout the day, students will participate in a soccer shootout, combining fun with a powerful cause.

In the lead-up to Socktober, students will explore the role of Catholic Mission in class. Through the Head, Heart, Hands framework, they'll deepen their understanding of global issues, develop compassion for children in developing countries, and learn how they can make a difference. The event also aligns with the principles of Catholic Social Teaching, encouraging students to live out these values in meaningful ways.

  • Head: Students will expand their awareness of global challenges by engaging with resources and learning about the daily realities faced by children in developing countries, promoting the Catholic Social Teaching principle of Solidarity.
  • Heart: Using 360 virtual reality experiences, storytelling, and formation activities, students will connect emotionally with the children supported by Catholic Mission, fostering a spirit of Human Dignity and empathy.
  • Hands: Students will be encouraged to take meaningful action through prayer, advocacy, and financial support, practicing the principles of Preferential Option for the Poor and Call to Family, Community, and Participation, making a real impact in the lives of children in need.

Let's come together for Socktober, have fun, and kick goals for a great cause while living out our commitment to Catholic Social Teaching!

Seven Catholic Social Teaching Principles

Catholic Social Teaching (CST) is rooted in Scripture, formed by the wisdom of Church leaders, and influenced by grassroots movements. It is our moral compass, guiding us on how to live out our faith in the world.

The CST principles which inspire our work are:

  • Human Dignity
  • Common Good
  • Solidarity
  • Subsidiarity
  • Preferred Option for the Poor
  • Care for Creation
  • Participation

Our faith calls us to love God and to love our neighbours in every situation, especially our sisters and brothers living in poverty. Following in the footsteps of Christ, we hope to make present in our unjust and broken world, the justice, love and peace of God.
