Specialist Feature News: Performing Arts
Selamat Siang,
This term in Performing Arts words like: expressive, creative, proud moment, courageous act, dramatic flare and entertaining have filled the air whether in the classroom or the Hall spaces.
Our adventures in drama and music had us dancing through journeys where we sung about runaway Meatballs on top of Spaghetti, all covered with cheese, to songs about finding the sun on a cloudy day (Tones and I - Cloudy Day).
Junior school classes have been exploring elements of dance with movements in groups of 8 counts, and directions and spatial language such as above, below, side to side and front to back. One of the best moments in Foundation this week was dancing as if we were different dramatic scenes, for example 'Turning the barbeque tongs and burning your mouth on a hot sausage', or 'being a ocean creature swimming through the sea' represented in dance- like moves, accompanied by music.
Year 3/4 students continued their exploration of mime, and applied their skills using music and lyrics to communicate a story. One of the songs, "Just like Fire" by Pink was a favourite.
Earlier in the term, the students also explored role play, through a short play "Night at the Museum" taking on spoken and non-spoken parts to bring the story to life as a whole class.
Year 5/6 students this term have tried their hand at lyric writing, instrumental music composition and dance choreography activities to expand their skills in Performing Arts.
This week they are rehearsing their own group devised dance performances and here are a few photos from their sessions.
Coming up... End of Year Concert : 4th December 2024 on the School Oval, a fabulous occasion to celebrate the year that has been and to look forward to the season of giving and sharing with loved ones to come. Featuring our incredible Junior Choir and Senior Choir, Senior Dance Troupe and perhaps a few surprises!
