Learning and Teaching

Welcome all students!
We extend a warm welcome to each of you as we commence an enriching week at SMCM. Our dedicated staff are excited to see all of our students getting straight into learning and enjoying each other’s company.
In the spirit of continual growth, our educators are actively immersing themselves in a diverse array of professional learning opportunities. Over the break, you may have seen some snapshots of our staff working together to set up a wonderful year for our students. Throughout the academic year, we shall continue on our learning journey, sharing insights and discoveries with the entire school community along the way.
Golden Child Update
Congratulations!
Towards the end of last year, we had a past Golden Child go for and earn the title of Golden Child once again.
Congratulations to Amrit M on your wonderful achievement.
To earn the title of Golden Child, students must earn masters in and be able to name facts about: The planets, rainbows, bones, the solar system, clouds, the mouth, birds and all of the Periodic Table.
A huge achievement!

Safer Internet Day
On Tuesday 11th February, we will be celebrating Safer Internet Day. It is a day that is recognised globally and it is endorsed by our Australian eSafety Commissioner.
This day serves us as a reminder to:
- CONNECT safely by keeping apps and devices secure and regularly checking privacy settings.
- REFLECT on how our actions online may affects us and others.
- PROTECT ourselves and others by making good choices online and report any inappropriate behaviour.
What will happen at school on Safer Internet Day?
Homegroup teachers will use this day as an opportunity to engage with their students in conversations about online safety. This is timed perfectly as we continue to establish our routines and expectations to ensure we all have a positive, safe and successful 2024.
The eSafety Commissioner website has a range of resources not just for teachers, but for families, too. For example, you can find a read-along video titled “Swoosh and Glide” that follows two eSafety sugar gliders who learn about being safe online.
Digital Technologies User Agreement (Student Form) - Due Friday 7th February
Each year, you and your child are required to read and sign a ‘Digital Technologies User Agreement’ before they are provided with access to our digital devices. As you read through the agreement, we encourage families to use this as an opportunity to open up discussions with your child about the different ways we can act safely when using a device, especially online.
You would have already received a blue form that needs to be returned to your homegroup teacher by Friday 7th February. Spare copies are available at the front office.
For a digital copy, please view the document below:
As we navigate the digital landscape, let us remain vigilant both online and offline. Should you require any further assistance, do not hesitate to seek our support.
