School Council Meeting  22/10/2024

On Tuesday the school council met, after a break in September, for the eighth meeting of 2024. Once again our Grade 6 JSC representatives, Scarlett and Aven, impressed the school council members, not just with the depth and breadth of the work and activity that the JSC has been involved in, but also with the thoughtful, mature and confidently delivered presentation. Topics included; the Angelsea camp, the successful hot shots tennis team, prep aquarium visit, Grade 4 science works and the upcoming crazy camel, step-up and Grade 6 transition day. We even had Mat asking if he could use the presentation for this week principal’s report.

When Scarlett was asked what being a JSC meant to her, she shared that it gave her the opportunity to give back to the school, have her voice heard and make a positive impact on her fellow students. The council suggested it could be beneficial for current JSC members to share their experiences with students who are considering nominating for next years JSC.

Mat reported on the students amazing art work and the success of the WOW art show. He also mentioned how wonderful it was to have Jo-Jo in attendance as well as what an incredible job Marcia had done in bringing the event together. The community spirit shone through in the enthusiasm and willingness of everyone to contribute. The council discussed ways to make the next event even better still.

There was also great discussion around the new year 3/4 composite class structure for next year, with Mat highlighting the success of the well-attended information night. All agreed that maximising opportunities to share with the school community the process, rationale and benefits of decisions such as these is invaluable.

The building and grounds committee highlighted that future works will be required to rectify the cause of the power outages that were experienced early last week. The finance reports for August and September were approved as well as a 12 month extension to the license agreement with Leo and the Jude Fina foods team – ensuring delicious canteen lunches will continue to be available next year.

The education policy team displayed samples of the new uniform items, which include; a cotton polo, front button dress, bomber jacket, beanie and a new pants option. The team is working to have these items available early next year. The council endorsed the visitor’s policy, which was largely unchanged.

Finally, it was Zoe’s last school council meeting, prior to going on family leave, a huge thank you to her for the commitment, passion and contribution she’s made to the school council over the last two years.
