Dear Families,
Transition Programs & Class Placement
Year 3/4 Composite Information Night
On Wednesday 9th October the school held its Year 3/4 composite information night. The night was well attended with approximately 70 individuals in attendance. I would like to thank all who came and positively engaged in the discussion. I know the school leadership team really appreciated the opportunity to discuss key points and answer any questions.
We would like to reassure all members of the school community that much consideration and thought has gone into this decision. We can understand the concerns and apprehension that comes with change, but we have looked to place key people and resources in place to make sure that every Willy kid has the support to be the best they can be.
A key to the changes' success is the experience and expertise of staff operating in this model, and the school’s history of running highly successful composite structures. We will continue to communicate key transition supports and we would encourage families to have positive conversations at home.
Attached is a summary of the key talking points of the presentation. The summary tries to also capture questions and answers from the night, which is difficult at times. I would encourage anyone who has any further questions to contact me directly via email.
Class Placement
The process of class placements for 2025 has commenced and in the coming weeks, students from all years will be asked to nominate 5 learning buddies. This information, supported by other individual student information, will create the basis for classroom teachers and school leadership to start the complex task of class placement.
Please Note: Due to the complexities of class placements please be aware that the school is unable to take requests for teachers and classmates. The process is extremely rigorous with classroom and specialist teachers, along with school leadership spending many weeks looking at the academic, social, and emotional needs of all individual Willy Kids. We aim to meet the needs of all Willy Kids, with the people that work alongside our students in a great position to make positive decisions.
If you believe you have important information about your child that will help support this process please ensure to email myself directly by Friday 25th October. Please know that although the school looks to keep an extensive record of past class placement information we can not guarantee that this information will be transferred to this year, therefore we are requesting that you resend any important information by the above date.
Please note the school’s class placement policy attached.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this process.
Art Show
What a weekend we just had with our Wonders of Williamstown Art show on display.
This all commenced without the adults only night on Friday which saw staff, parents and community members attend. Class art pieces were auctioned off, as parents and carers looked to grab a piece of their child’s primary school journey. A big thank you to Katie Smith from Williams Real Estate who led the auction.
Sunday saw the doors open to all students and their families as the school was a buzz with excitement
Toa Shines at Nationals
Recently Toa from Grade 6 travelled to Cairns to represent Victoria at the National Softball Championships. Toa represented our state, school and himself proudly returning with a national Championship bronze medal. A big congratulations to Toa. Maybe we will see him in the major leagues some day.
Families Relocating/Leaving
Term 4 is zooming past and this means plans for 2025 are well on the way. The end of year brings lots of changes and for some it is a geographical change. We are asking any families who will be moving on in 2025 who haven't already contacted the office to do so. This information will ensure the school has all the required information moving into next year.
Warm regards,
Mat
