Welcome back to Term 4 of 2024!

I hope this message finds you well-rested and ready for the final stretch of this academic year. As some of you may know, I recently returned from a period of Long Service Leave, during which time I had the utmost confidence in the capable hands of our Principal team, including Mrs Bentata- Grimm and Mrs Amanda Miller. Their diligent efforts ensured the school continued to operate smoothly and effectively in my absence, for which I am deeply grateful.

I would like to acknowledge the efforts of Beau Landes and Tess Yoshida for their vision in creating the CPS Music Festival, that was a first, and fully endorsed and supported by our staff. What a fabulous day for our students, offering an opportunity to perform and showcase their skills to proud families and engage in a day of organised fun. The positive feedback I received from our spectators was overwhelming and I thank all those who attended and shared the joy.

I would also like to acknowledge the learning of our Grade 6 students who engaged in their ‘passion projects', proudly presenting to parents late last term. The Passion Project encourages creativity in the classroom and promotes inquiry, perseverance, problem solving, and innovation, among other lifelong skills. We were witness to some outstanding presentations including portrait drawing, collaborative art pieces, a perfumery, a window box, movies, baking and many more.

I am excited to share with you the progress we've made during this term. Our Admin Building's Windows Project is nearing completion, and I must say, the transformation is nothing short of remarkable. The first floor now boasts modern windows that not only open to welcome fresh air but also feature electronic blinds for optimal light control. Additionally, new cabinetry has been ordered, with further enhancements to the facade planned in the coming weeks. This revitalisation underscores our commitment to providing a wonderful, safe learning environment for all our students and staff. New carpet has been laid and will be a fabulous space for our students to return to when completed.

As we embark on Term 4, it is important to emphasise that learning remains our top priority. Classes will commence promptly at nine o'clock, and I kindly remind everyone to ensure punctuality for a productive start to each day. Our slogan, “Learning Starts at 9, be on time” continues to be advocated.

Our school improvement team (SIT) has been working industriously behind the scenes this year to develop a Carnegie PS Instructional Playbook. The SIT is developing the knowledge, tools and resources to curate and clarify the teaching practices that matter most to us at CPS. Our learning in 2025 will be on sharing this with our 2025 staff to embed consistent practices across our school that focus on student engagement and teaching excellence.

On the last day of term 3 we also celebrated a fabulous, fun Footy Day. Special thanks to Mr Pollard for his organisational skills. It was so rewarding to be able to share in the joy and the hype associated with our sporting teams and come together as a community. I don’t remember the Brisbane Lions being overly supported on this day but I do wonder if they’ll be more popular in 2025.

I look forward to the exciting opportunities and achievements that await us in the weeks ahead. There is a lot to look forward to, including a Colour Run, the Prep - Grade 2 Athletics Carnival, Swimming, 2025 Prep Orientation, and much more!

Sun Smart Reminder

A reminder that it is so important for our students to be wearing their hats in the yard and wearing SPF 30 sunscreen during these hotter months. Please remember to name all school hats with a permanent marker as we find many unnamed hats in our school and have difficulty returning them to their owners. Students need to wear their school hats during outdoor PE lessons, recess and lunch times and when on outdoor excursions.

World Teachers Day

World Teachers’ Day is held internationally on Friday 25th October. World Teachers’ Day is a chance to recognise and celebrate the teachers who are making, or have made, an impact in our lives. Whether you're a current student, have children in school, or have been out of school for many years, World Teachers’ Day is a chance to say, ‘thank you’. Reaching out to your child’s teacher to thank them for the work that they do means a great deal, so please consider passing on any feedback to our staff to show your appreciation.

I wish to acknowledge the traditional owners of

the lands on which this is being read and pay my respects to elders past present and emerging. I wish to acknowledge our First Nations people and pay respects to them. I note further that these lands were never ceded and are, and always will be, Aboriginal Lands.
