Mental Health Education Programs

Over the coming weeks our Year 7-9 students will participate in two education programs aimed at supporting students’ mental health and wellbeing.

On Wednesday 6th of November, we will be visited by Outside the Locker Room, an organisation that provides education sessions to schools, businesses and sporting groups. The aim to equip students to understand the signs of a difficult time, identify when to seek professional help and identify coping mechanisms to overcome a difficult time.

On Wednesday 27th of November we will be visited by the Headspace mental health and education program consultants. Students will participate in the education workshop Standing Strong: bullying and mental health. The workshop aims to increase mental health literacy, reduce stigma, and build the capacity of young people to understand their own wellbeing needs, support their peers and explore pathways for help-seeking.

Following on from the student session headspace are planning on running a parent session for parents and carers. The session will cover:

  • mental health and wellbeing in adolescence
  • how to have conversations with young people about their mental health & wellbeing
  • strategies for parents and carers about how to support their young person
  • Where you and your young person can go for support

Please see the attached flyer for further details. The session requires a minimum of 10 people to run so RSVP is essential.

Catholic Care Victoria (CCV)- Parent programs & workshops

Over the year, CCV run a wide-range of one-off parent programs, as well as lengthier workshops. The delivery is both online & face-to-face & addresses a range of range of useful topics. Some programs are free, however some attract a cost.

Each term they publish a calendar which will feature on the Parent’s Bulletin & we will also send it out via Compass. In the past, a number of staff & families have participated in CCV programs & have spoken very highly of them.
