Dearest Readers
It has come to my attention that the annual celebration of Book Week is upon us once more. It is nearly time for our wonderful GSG community to celebrate "The Magic of Reading!" Book Week fosters a sense of community as readers come together to share their love of literature. Who amongst us cannot contain the excitement we feel as reading ignites and encourages self-reflection and personal growth among our beloved students? It challenges our beliefs, broadens our empathy, and helps us become more thoughtful and compassionate individuals.
The school is buzzing with the approaching Dress Up Day. This author has heard whispers of some of our students’ planned costumes, having had her ear to the ground and she has been suitably impressed with the prowess and book knowledge ingenuity shared with her throughout the day. Creativity, collaboration, and camaraderie abound…. This is what a shared love of reading does dear reader.
We have activities set for each day...
We will be having a chalk drawing battle of the houses for secondary students inspired by one of the shortlisted books by Bob Graham: “The Concrete Garden.”
Secondary students will have the long brick wall between the library door and the Senior School buildings. This will be divided into houses. Primary students will have the wall between the library door and the Primary School.
We have an AI image quiz made by Mr Ritchie. Not only does Mr Ritchie excel in all things Humanities but joins in with Book Week preparations as well.
Our esteemed staff has been letting this author know their favourite book as a child. Students who enjoy a good conundrum must match the staff member to their favourite childhood book.
Let us not forget the Primary School decorate your door competition, the infamous Book Week Parade in the gym at 9.00am on Thursday 22 August. Ah, there are whispers that intrigue! It seems there is a buzz that some Year Twelve students may attend the upcoming parade for a short time. It is not uncommon for senior students to participate in such festivities, especially if it involves celebrating community spirit.
But wait dear reader! Surely the piece de resistance will be our Book Fair. Paperbark Merchants is providing us with a fabulous array of books for students to purchase, adding to their own home libraries, whilst being a wonderful fundraising event for our library.
Homeroom quizzes, the famed Golden Leaf, Guess the shredded book.. You’ve got to be in it to win dear reader… only a few days to go…
As you partake in the festivities of Book Week, I urge you to embrace the myriad benefits that reading bestows upon us. Let us celebrate the power of the written word and the endless possibilities it brings.
Yours most sincerely,
Lady Teacher Librarian
