PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

The Moorabbin Primary School Community touch the land and think of the Bunurong People and surrounding Clans of the Kulin Nation who cared for the land before us.

We share our gratitude to their Elders past, present and emerging.  As we touch this land, we promise to treasure it, taking care of all its people, animals, plants and waterways. We at Moorabbin Primary School appreciate this land. Thank you.

Dear Parents and Carers,

ONLINE PARENT OPINION SURVEY – Please provide feedback, it only takes 10 minutes.

The annual survey is offered by the Department of Education and is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement.

The survey is optional, but we encourage all families to participate. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. As of today, we have 35% participation rate, it only takes about 10 minutes but it’s really important for families who have been randomly chosen to complete the survey. The survey will close today.

EXITING STUDENTS

If you have a child in Foundation through to Grade 5 who is planning to leave Moorabbin Primary School at the end of 2024 could you kindly email the office at Moorabbin.ps@education.vic.gov.au

All teachers except those on leave have provided their intentions for next year so I really need to know now what our school enrolment numbers will be in order to keep staff or if we have to recruit.

BUILDING UPDATE

The next phase of our facilities upgrade has commenced with an end to an era for the old portables along the Kingston reserve fence line, the canteen and the old reading room. The area was cleared over the course of this week and the grounds are being prepped and soil being tested for the commencement of the laying out all the pipes for sewage and plumbing.

STAFFING UPDATE

After our most recent round of recruitment, I would like to congratulate all applicants for putting themselves forward. It was not an easy process.

Well done to Mrs Mary Katis who was the successful applicant for the schools ART Teacher, and she is also now an ongoing staff member.

We have also been able to translate these staff members contracts for another 12 months for 2025.

  • Ms Alyse Treloar
  • Ms Leesa Warman
  • Mr Anthony Van Berkel
  • Ms Romi Katz
  • Ms Marina Stefanou
  • Ms Sarah Allen

Mr Stephen Leeden, Mr Nicholas Crane and Mrs Mary Tsekouras will remain as our schools Literacy, Mathematics and Assessment and reporting Learning specialists.

I can also confirm that these specialist subjects will remain as standalone subjects for 2025:

  • Science with Mr Mouncer
  • SEL (Social and emotional learning) with Mrs Kelly
  • Art with Mrs Katis
  • PE (Physical Education) with Mr Yeaman
  • LOTE (Chinese) with Mr Fang
  • Music with Ms Howden

I am hoping that once I have all external staff preferences for those who are currently on leave, we will be able to see how many more staff will be required and perhaps we may see some more movement of staff seeking to pursue other interests outside of teaching.

INVITATION FOR THE OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE NEW BUILDING

Friday September 6th 2:30-3:30pm

We will be formally opening our new building, and I invite everyone to help celebrate and join us as we cut the “red ribbon” and acknowledge the hard work our community has put in in order to make this a reality for our children.

Please come along as we will have representatives from our school council, local members of parliament and other dignitaries. The opening will start with a smoking ceremony. We look forward to welcoming everyone to be part of this special event for our school.

ART SHOW IN THE NEW BUILDING (GROUND FLOOR) 11TH SEPTEMBER 3.30PM- 5.00PM

Mrs Katis has been busy planning and organising with the students two pieces of artwork around the Roald Dahl books with the theme: ‘A World of Pure Imagination’.

Each year level has been immersed in these books, the images and children have produced two pieces of Artwork that we are looking to show case to the community on Wednesday 11th September straight after school. EVERYONE is welcome to attend and have a wander around the new building as pieces will be highlighted on both levels.

We look forward to the Art show and Mrs Katris is very proud of the quality of the pieces that will be on display.
