Dear Marian Catholic College Community,

Safeguarding September -

National Child Protection Week September 1-7-Every child in every community needs a fair go.

The Diocese of Wagga Wagga and Marian Catholic College are committed to the care, wellbeing and protection of children, young people and adults at risk in our community. In this National Child Protection Week we renew our commitment to work together to ensure that every member of our community gets a fair go, is supported and feels safe.

This week all staff at the College participated in Safeguarding Training delivered by Mrs Megan Masterson, who works for the Bishop and in the CEDWW Directorate. The training and training packages provided important and up to date information on safeguarding our children, adolescents and young people at risk.

The Diocese is running a competition for all CEDWW Secondary Students to design a poster capturing “What a safe school looks like to me”. The competition opens next week. Details can be found on the flyer provided.

Loving God,

We pray for the safety and wellbeing of all children and adults at risk. Protect them from harm, and surround them with your love. May they grow in a world where they feel safe, valued and cherished.

Amen

Events-TEDx

TEDx Griffith came to town this week with Marian providing the venue for the event in the Drama Room and McAuley Tas Foyer. All of the speeches and musical performances were outstanding. We were thrilled to view the Marambidya Dance Group, including Shamia Williams (Yr 11) and Lijanah Philp (Yr 9).  TED speakers included Elijah Ingram, Rob Dunn, Marian student Shirine Nehme (Yr 11), Michelle Huntington, Syam Mohan, Gary Dal Broi, Jayne Christian, and Kristy Wallace. The evening was live-streamed from the MCC Facebook page and filmed by TEDx Griffith and their support team. Eleni Kouzina provided delicious food for the event. We thank student leaders and Food Tech students for their support on the night and the welcome provided to all guests.

Behind the scenes the work of Ms Helen Brill, Mrs Julieanne O’Keeffe, Mr Micheal Crosato, Mr Matt Segrave and Mrs Belinda Aventi was greatly appreciated-along with other generous staff who provided their support on the night and in the months leading up to the night.

Congratulations to all Marian Students above involved in supporting TEDx Griffith and to Shirine Nehme for her outstanding performance on the night.

Senior Students Update:

Year 12 students are very busy in their final weeks before completing their schooling at the end of this term. Year 12 Music students delivered wonderful performances in their dress rehearsal night Thursday Week 5. All major works for Industrial Technologies classes have been submitted on time and most students are now working through final preparations for exams and assessment.

Year 12 students and their families have been provided with information about final week celebrations and the Formal Graduation Evening in November after the HSC. We continue to keep students in our thoughts and prayers and wish them all the best in these final few weeks.

Year 11 Students aspiring to student leadership roles gave outstanding speeches to an audience of their peers which was live streamed to all of the College last week. The entire College, including staff, were provided with an opportunity to then vote on who they would like to undertake the roles of College Captain and Vice Captains in 2025.

All students who progressed to the presentation round and gave speeches, will be given a leadership, house or prefect role. There will be a final process of interviews occurring next week to discern the College captain positions based on the overall numbers of votes for each student. We were incredibly pleased and proud of all of our emerging Year 12 leaders, their spoken presentations and their service to the school.
