Year 11 Camp

On Wednesday 7 August, our Year 11 students headed off to Melbourne for a two-day university, TAFE and industry experience. We managed to pack much into the two days.

Day One:

Students visited the Australian Defence Forces (ADF) where they heard from speakers in the Air Force, Navy and Army. They spoke to students about what opportunities the defence forces offer and particularly encouraged the students the consider a GAP Year in the defence forces.

The afternoon session saw students head to Kangan Institute and a construction site of a boutique hotel in the inner city with some very interesting colour schemes.

The night activity saw the students head to the Queen Victoria Night Markets and then to the Old Melbourne Gaol for a ghost tour.

Day two:

Thursday 8 August, saw some very weary students after the very early start the day before. Those students interested in IT and design headed to the Academy of Interactive Entertainment (AIE) which saw them receive information of game design, film making, special effects and related areas. The other students split up going to RMIT and the Australian Catholic University (ACU). In the afternoon students went out to Swinburne University whilst a second group visited the construction site.

The purpose of this camp was to expose students to the many opportunities they have when they finish their schooling. For some of our students this was an introduction into city life as they have not visited Melbourne often.

They learned how to catch public transport and the importance of being on time when relying on catching the tram or train. It was great to see students ask questions wherever we went.

Thank you to the students for being a fantastic group to take on camp.
