Assistant Principal Message

Dear Kyabram P-12 College Families,

Welcome to this edition of our Channels newsletter. As always, we are excited to share the latest happenings and important updates from Kyabram P-12 College with you. Over the past fortnight, our college community has been actively involved in a variety of events and initiatives that reflect our commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and dynamic learning environment for all students.

National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence – Upstander Project

Last Wednesday, 14 August, our college came together to recognise the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence. It was an inspiring day where students had the opportunity to dress as superheroes, symbolising their commitment to standing up against bullying. This initiative was part of the Upstander Project, brilliantly led by Karli Myers and Kaitlyn Souter. Over the coming weeks, our students will engage in a series of learning activities, discussions, and lessons aimed at building awareness, teaching preventative strategies, and empowering students to take a firm stance against antisocial behaviour. We look forward to seeing our students more become active upstanders in our community.

Waranga Athletics Day

On Friday 16 August, our Year 3-6 students proudly represented our college at the annual Waranga Athletics. Despite some ominous clouds, the event ran smoothly, showcasing the talent and sportsmanship of students from across our region. A special thank you goes out to Claudia Moore and Carmen Nicholson, whose meticulous planning and organisation ensured the day’s success. Their dedication and hard work made for a memorable day of athletics and community spirit.

Professional Development Day – Victorian Curriculum 2.0

On Monday 19 August, our staff participated in a professional learning day focused on the upcoming implementation of the Victorian Curriculum 2.0. Led by our Learning Specialist and Leader, Natalie Parkinson and Rowena Morris, the session provided valuable insights into the curriculum changes. Staff members had the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the new content, adapt their planners, and explore how these changes will progress across different year levels. We are excited to bring this updated curriculum to our students next year, ensuring that our teaching practices continue to evolve and meet their educational needs.

Emergency Practice Drill

This Friday 23 August, our college participated in a practice Emergency Drill focused on an ‘extreme weather event’. This drill required all classes and staff to ‘shelter in place’ under code orange lockdown conditions. Such drills are an essential part of our Emergency Management Plan, ensuring that our school community is well prepared for various scenarios. We appreciate the cooperation and seriousness shown by all students and staff during the drill, helping us to maintain a safe and secure environment at Kyabram P-12 College.

Thank you for your ongoing support and engagement in our school community. We look forward to continuing to work together for the benefit of all our students.

With gratitude,

Billy Barnes
