Learning & Teaching in 1/2H
We are excited to share some of the wonderful experiences and activities that our Grade 1/2H students enjoyed during Term 3. It has been a term full of creativity, learning, and new adventures!
The Potato Olympics
One of the standout events this term was the Potato Olympics, a unique and fun-filled activity where each student created their very own potato athlete. Our students let their imaginations run wild, giving their athletes funny names, dressing them up with googly eyes, and decorating them with all sorts of accessories—even leotards and tutus!
The potato athletes were then divided into countries and competed in various events, such as the potato stack, hockey, and the under-over challenge. The spirit of friendly competition was high, and everyone cheered each other on. In the end, Ireland took home the gold medal, but all our students were winners, having learned valuable lessons about teamwork and sportsmanship.
Reptile Incursion
Another highlight of Term 3 was the reptile incursion. Our students were amazed by the incredible creatures that visited our school. Among them were squirrel sugar gliders gliding gracefully, frill-necked lizards, scaly snakes, and stick insects camouflaged perfectly against their surroundings.
The students learned fascinating facts about these animals' habitats, diets, and survival tactics in the wild. Some of the braver students even had the chance to touch the reptiles, discovering that they weren't as scary as they seemed. It was a thrilling and educational experience that left everyone with a greater appreciation for the role reptiles play in nature.
Book Week – 'Reading is Magic'
This term, we also celebrated the magic of reading during Book Week. The theme 'Reading is Magic' set the stage for a day filled with imagination and creativity. Students came to school dressed as their favourite book characters, from wizards with wands to fairies with sparkly wings, superheroes, and even a few villains!
We gathered together as a school and paraded our characters in a Book Week celebration. The event was a vibrant celebration of our favourite stories, where everyone had a chance to bring their beloved characters to life.
Swimming Lessons
For two weeks this term, our students honed their swimming skills. Each day, they became more confident in the water, practicing essential techniques like floating, kicking, and even backstroke. It was hard work, but the progress they made was incredible.
Swimming is an important life skill, and we are proud of the effort and determination our students showed during their lessons. They now feel more confident and secure in the water, ready to enjoy a wide range of aquatic activities.
A Look Back at Term 3
As Term 3 draws to a close, we reflect on all the amazing experiences our students have had. From the creativity of the Potato Olympics to the excitement of the reptile incursion, the magic of Book Week, and the skill-building in swimming lessons, it has been an unforgettable term.
We are so proud of our students for their enthusiasm, hard work, and willingness to learn. We look forward to all the new adventures that Term 4 will bring!
