On Wednesday, 14th August the Year 3/4 classes ventured into the city by train. To complement the art show, we visited the National Gallery of Victoria and had an educational tour. A highlight was visiting the Great Hall and lying on the floor to look at the stained glass ceiling.
Each class walked along St Kilda Road to see the many statues and monuments that are significant to Melbourne.
A big thank you to the parent helpers who came along on the day.
The train ride was long but fun. There was interesting stuff outside the train like schools, the police station and shops. The walk was fun because we got to see lots of interesting things such as the train station and the tall skyscrapers.

When we got on the train to go to the art gallery we had a bingo board to find things while we were looking outside the train. We passed some schools, saw some trains and tall buildings. When we got to the city we walked through Federation Square to get to Birrarung Marr Playground for play lunch. Then it was a quick walk to the Art Gallery.

When we went to the Art Gallery all of the art was very cool. The artists made very big or small paintings. I saw a painting of a girl throwing her earring in the wine because she was mad. The gallery is big! We had lots of fun.
Adrian
When we went in the art gallery there were two massive statues. They are made up people. We did drawings and we could not look at what we were doing, only at the paintings we were copying. It was fun. I hope if you go to the gallery you will enjoy it too.
Luca
The excursion was really fun because we got to see the paintings. There were 2 paintings painted by the same person- Claude Monet. They were opposites of colours- warm and cold colours. My favourite was the one with the warm colours because it was attractive and fun to look at.

When we arrived at the Art Gallery I remembered that there was a little fountain which I tossed a penny into when I was 4. In the Gallery we went to the Great Hall and I did not know that stained glass could be used to make a roof. After we looked at the stained glass ceiling we went upstairs and saw weird creatures and we made one. It was an interesting day.

When we exited the NGV we had our lunch then walked to a fountain that sprayed water on us. The fountain is unique because it is bigger than other fountains and there are smaller ones inside it. We a saw a statue of Weary Dunlop who served in World War II. We noticed that he was very tall and we honoured him by standing around the statue for a minute's silence.
Kenneth
The thing I loved was when we played on the grass. After that we got to see some special things like a water fountain and a statue of a doctor from World War II. Finally we walked to the train station. It was a fun day that we liked.
Jordan
Our excursion was fun and exciting. We went to the floral clock. The we went to Weary Dunlop's memorial.
Dante
When we went to the memorial we had a minute of silence for Weary Dunlop. After that we saw the fig tree from 'My Place'. Then we we walked back to the train station and back to school. I was very excited to go to the NGV at the start of the excursion.
Amaya
The best part of the excursion was on the train on the way back because we passed Southern Cross and Melbourne Central stations. They were enormous. Overall it was amazing.
