Performing Arts

The students have taken on a whole new dance project these last few weeks. Coming together in groups, the students are choreographing and designing their very own dances! The Preps have been using movement cards to dance with, a popular song to dance to is Believer. The Grade One and Two students have been designing their own partner dances, with the four key elements of a barn dance - repeating the steps, dancing in a circle, swapping dance partners and moving into and out of the circle. The Grade Three and Four students have been coming up with their own line dances, a very popular song for these fancy dancers is the song Timber, some key elements these students have been looking at are staying in a line, repeating the steps and changing direction in their dance. Finally, the Grade Five and Six students are producing their own flash mobs; developing their confidence and teamwork as they dance to popular songs.

Auslan

Students have been continuing on with our Olympics theme. It is so pleasing to see students memorising these new signs week after week. We are really starting to build a strong Auslan vocabulary. Students have been practising how to sign many different sports such as badminton, swimming, gymnastics and athletics, and consolidating their learning with some cut and paste activities. Students are able to sign the phrase "my favourite Olympic sport ...." and also the year and location of the current Olympic Games.   Can you guess the Olympic sports signs below?

Physical Education

On Thursday, August 8th, a group of students participated in the 5/6 Hoop Time in Warragul. Our students played against several different schools over the course of the day in a tournament for beginning and emerging basketballers. The behaviour and sportsmanship shown by our students was outstanding and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Then on Wednesday, August 14th, a group of students participated in the first of two 3/4 Hoop Time sessions, this time at Cardinia Life in Pakenham. These two teams also showed excellent sportsmanship and enjoyed their day playing against other schools.

Visual Arts

The grade 1/2s made "Alphabet Soup", playing with patterns, lines, oil pastels, writing and feeling letters.

Ingredients and procedure:

  1. A cookie tin with magnetic letters: the students have to feel and identify some letters without peeking.
  2. A mini-whiteboard: to practise a tablecloth pattern with lines and then transfer it to paper.
  3. A small rectangular piece of paper: draw a spoon on it and glue onto the tablecloth to represent a napkin.
  4. A round piece of paper with 'concentric circles': paint the soup with watercolour and glue onto the tablecloth.
  5. Figure out on which side of the bowl/serviette the shadow needs to be painted.
  6. Add the letters to the soup.

Enjoy the soup, hot or cold!
