Didjeribone Incursion

On Thursday the 7th we had Tjupurru come and visit PHPS for a very special incursion. Tjupurru explained what didgeridoos are, where to find them in Australia and how they are significant to the indigenous people in the northern parts of the country. He showed us his instrument – the Dijeribone and explained how it is a didgeridoo combined with a trombone  - making the didgeridoo a one instrument orchestra! Tjupurru demonstrated how to play these instruments and had us all bopping along to the rhythm. He then recorded parts of the show and then replayed them whilst adding more layers to the music. It was very impressive to see the loop machine in action! He then asked if we had any special birthdays and Mitchell from 1/2K stood up! Tjupurru then sang happy birthday with the didgeridoo! It was very special! Tjupurru asked for students to come up on stage with them and pretended to use them as different instruments whilst playing music he had just created. It was such an engaging experience and students had a great time, one of the students said he “Wanted to go back!” when discussing the event in a later class.
