Flags Flying High

You may have noticed that we now have three flags flying high beside the Launceston Christian School reception. With strong board support, we decided to display these three flags:

  • The Australian Aboriginal flag
  • The Tasmanian State flag
  • The Australian flag

The Federal Member for Bass, Bridget Archer MP, presented us with the Australian flag and the Aboriginal Australian flag, for which we are grateful to have in acknowledgement of the Aboriginal students on our enrolment as well as the local palawa community. Deputy Premier Michael Ferguson MP also presented us with the Tasmanian State flag. As they flutter in the breeze above our school, may we be reminded to thank our Lord and Saviour for the blessing of living on this soil.

Book Week

What fun we had celebrating the joy and wonders we can access when we dive into books and reading. Thank you, parents, for the costumes for our Book Week Parade on Monday - didn't our primary students look fabulous! Our teachers joined in the fun, dressing as Dr Seuss characters.

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go."

– Dr. Seuss

During Book Week, Year 3 and 4 students shared some book-themed treats. While they were munching on Where is the Green Sheep cupcakes and Very Hungry Caterpillar biscuits, we asked what they loved about reading. They're responses were spot on!

"When you're stressed, I just love to sit down and read. You feel so relaxed. My favourite book is Wolf Girl."

- Jacinta.

"I love reading. It's really adventurous and you can go anywhere in the world in just a few seconds."

- Olive.

"I do lots of reading. I love Roald Dahl because I love James and the Giant Peach and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."

- William.

"I love getting stuck into a good book and I just keep reading it, sometimes twice!"

- Elsie.

"I love reading books where they go on an adventure to a different place. They make me feel really happy, like I want to go to that place straight away."

- Chloe.

A visit from Education Minister Jo Palmer

As part of our Book Week celebrations, we had a visit from Tasmanian Minister for Education, Children and Youth, the Honourable Jo Palmer. She shared with us a book that is special to her, The Gruffalo, because she read it to each of her children when they were younger. Some students from Years 5 and 6 also shared books that were meaningful to them.

Sporting Congratulations!

Year 10 student Sophie Edmunds took part in her Jiu-Jitsu competition on Saturday last week. She was thrilled to place second and was really proud of her efforts, as are we!

Considering it was my first competition it was all pretty new and exciting and hearing my name getting called to the podium was very unexpected. For me jiu-jitsu is something that gets me away from everything else and something to just focus on especially when life is a bit much at times, and it's also lots of fun once you really get into it and know what you're doing.

In other sporting news, LCS was extremely well represented at the NSATIS Swimming Carnival. Of particular note was the U/16 Boys Team (Connor McCabe, Zinzan Farmer, Gus Challis and Donovan Peters) who won our first ever age group pennant in swimming, and Heidi Luck who broke an NSATIS record! Brilliant work swimmers.

Congratulations also to Austin Marshall, Ellie Beeston and Catherine Morgan who have been selected from LCS to represent NSATIS in the upcoming Rep game against the SSATIS schools on September 6. More details about the game in the Community Notice Board.

Year 4 student Aazeen Mahal recently represented LCS at the Bruce Cup in Darwin, hosted by Tennis School Sport Australia.

Despite Aazeen being the youngest member of the team, she upheld her values of kindness, commitment and sportsmanship extremely well and was commended by the team officials for her respectful attitude, sincere effort and the resilience she showed all the way through. Well done Aazeen!

Important Reminder: Parking @ LCS

We would like to remind everyone about the importance of adhering to our school's parking policy. It is crucial that we all abide by the posted speed limit to protect the safety of our children and other users of this shared space. Failure to do so puts our ability to continue using Windsor Park for drop-off and pick-up at risk.

Please take a moment to review the attached parking policy, which outlines the guidelines and expectations we must follow. Compliance with this policy is not optional - it is essential for the wellbeing of our school community and our continued use of this facility.

We urge everyone to drive slowly and carefully when entering and exiting the park and to ensure that you park in a safe manner within the designated areas. Let's work together to address this issue before it escalates further.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
