Assistant Principal – Religious Identity & Mission

Mrs Kim Mooney

On Friday 16 August, our College community came together to celebrate Mary Rice Day, raising awareness and essential funds for the Edmund Rice Centre (formerly known as the Mary Rice Centre) in Kenya.

Our Year 12 cohort wanted to mark this occasion in a special way, which led to the beginning of our new tradition – the Mary Rice Legacy Walk. Originally scheduled for the morning of Mary Rice Day before the Mass, it had to be postponed until the following Friday 23 August due to rain. Our Year 12 students met at the Junior School at 8.00 am, where the baton was presented to them by the Junior School leaders. The baton represents the coming together of our Australian and Kenyan cultures. It features eucalyptus leaves blending into African artworks, with African beads wrapped around the top that were brought back from the Mary Rice Centre prior to COVID-19. The baton will continue to be carried during the walk each year as an ongoing symbol of our commitment to supporting the Mary Rice Centre (Edmund Rice Centre). The Year 12 students then headed off to walk the 13 km to the Senior College, raising awareness and strengthening the bonds between our campuses.

We are still accepting donations through Qkr! until the end of the term if you have not yet had a chance to donate, and we will continue to raise money through events at the College. To date, we have raised over $2,000, which is great, but we can do better! Thank you to everyone who has already contributed to this very worthy cause.
