Secondary Department

Drama Workshop

On Wednesday 26 March, Uralla was lucky to be host to a Junior Drama Workshop run by the Department of Education. We had an experienced drama teacher come all the way from Sydney to conduct 2 x 2-hour sessions with our Year 5-10 students.

As this was such a fantastic opportunity, we were also able to offer the small public schools the option of joining us. We had eight Rocky River students take up this offer.

All students had a fantastic time. They demonstrated astounding improvisation and expression. Our presenter, John, was incredibly impressed by all those involved. Students consistently conducted themselves with decorum and respect. Congratulations and thank you to all those involved.

UNE Aboriginal Employment Strategy

On Thursday 20 March, 11 of our indigenous students travelled to UNE to be a part of the UNE Aboriginal Employment Strategy launch and got to speak to a variety of local businesses and government agencies about support services and employment opportunities. They were also able to sample some bushtucker.

Rotary Art Show

Students from the Food Technology and Hospitality classes had the opportunity to work with our local Rotary Club at their annual art show.  During opening night, students served the finger food they had made at school.

Work Placement

Hospitality students will be undertaking 35 hours of work placement in local businesses over the next two weeks.  This week, Reiley and Matilda are having a great time working at The Alternate Root Cafe and Subway.

Agriculture

This term in Agriculture, students have begun halter-breaking the calves we have at school. So far, this has been very successful. Students have worked on desensitising the calves and leading them with the goal of showing them later in the year.

We would also like to thank Mrs Kim Heagney, who took on one of the twin calves last year and has looked after him. We are looking forward to working with him when he returns to the school farm soon.
