Assistant Principals' Report

Hello everyone and welcome to our newsletter article,

We cannot believe we have just finished our second last week of Term 1, 2025!

As we head towards the end of term, we wanted to share with students, parents and carers some opportunities and ideas to continue learning at home over the school holiday period.

Please head to the following page for ideas about further supporting the development of literacy and numeracy skills from home:

Research shows that families are the most significant influence on their children’s learning, development, health, safety and wellbeing. Parents, carers and other family members play a key role in helping children develop literacy and numeracy skills through authentic and meaningful experiences. Our hope for the students at Heidelberg Primary School is to develop a love, passion, interest and curiosity to explore, experiment, problem solve and learn. Working in partnership with parents and carers and connecting home and school learning, supports us to optimise learning and wellbeing for our students.

Additionally, Heidelberg Primary School has a Home Learning Policy, found on our website which has been developed in consultation with the School Council to support student learning and wellbeing by:

• providing opportunities for students to review, revise and reinforce newly acquired skills

• providing opportunities for students to apply new knowledge

• providing opportunities for students to prepare for future lessons

• encouraging students to enrich or extend knowledge individually, collectively and imaginatively

• fostering good lifelong learning and study habits

• supporting learning partnerships with parents/carers

Also, for those who may have missed it, earlier this term Foundation families attended an information session on the updates to the Foundation Take-Home Reading Program from 2025. If you would like to view this session, you can find the recording here. Accompanying slides can be found on Compass. If you have further questions about the HPS Take Home Reading Program across any year level, please contact Stef Galvin, Learning Specialist or Monique Rankin.

Have a lovely week ahead.
