Principal's Report

Dear HPS Community,
I hope everyone has had a lovely week with lots of curiosity and engagement around learning. On Monday, I attended a regional professional learning session around the new Victorian Teaching and Learning Model with our three Learning Specialists - Nicola, Stef and Tegan.
One activity we engaged with was around developing understanding of the importance and impact on learning through modelling. We had to reflect on a time when we were learning to do something that was modelled to us and consider our experience. We then discussed what the person modelling did that resonated with us, what challenges we experienced with having something modelled for us and what we believed was done well through modelling in order for us to learn the most effectively.
I wonder if you have this discussion with your friends and family whether your points and discoveries would be similar to ours?! Come and chat to let me know what your key take aways from the task are :-)
School Focused Youth Services Funding
Hip Hip Hooray, we have funding on the way!! Recently, we have been successful in receiving funding through SFYS to support the facilitation of small groups in a program focused on Year 5 & 6 male students. The program is evidence based and titled ‘Revved Up’ https://stride.org.au/revved-up/ which supports students with social/emotional growth and development.
Last year we facilitated a similar model through Stride, focussing on the Year 4 female cohort, titled 'MPower' which aimed to empower students to more effectively manage friendships and to be better prepared for the everyday social challenges of school.
The feedback from those involved was excellent and we look forward to seeing the benefits this program brings. Thank you very much to Helen for sourcing and applying for this funding o provide these invaluable opportunities for our students.
HPS Parent Helpers and Volunteers
We thank those in our community who have completed the 2025 Volunteer Registration process and are therefore ready and able to come along to school events and assist.
If you would like to come and help in the classrooms, at excursions or on camps, please ensure you complete the requirements well in advance so that we ensure compliance and safety for all our students. We value and thank everyone who contributes to the success of our events and programs, as without you many additional opportunities are not always possible to achieve.
Year 2 Little Explorers Day
I was disappointed not to be able to visit the Year 2s on their Little Explorer's Day but am so pleased to hear that it was a wonderful day and the children had a fantastic experience.
Our little explorer's participated in lots of fun activities and worked together to achieve some team building exercises throughout the day. They enjoyed a walk to Possum Hollow at Warringal Parklands, where they ate their picnic lunch and completed further exciting activities. From what I have heard it was a great day enjoyed by all.
Thank you to staff and volunteers who helped make this event such a success!
Year 3 Camp
On Wednesday next week we have our Year 3 students, staff and volunteers heading off on a two-night adventure camp.
We thank the staff who have organised and prepared this event and wish everyone a joyous and safe time away!
