Welcome back to school for Term 2!

We are excited to be back and getting into the exciting learning we have planned. In Writing we are beginning to look at Persuasive Writing. So far students have been practicing stating their opinions and explaining their stance with a reason. In Maths we have been working on addition, building up our knowledge of single digit addition to start us off.

Year Two will be going on an excursion later this term, please keep an eye on Compass for more information!

Supporting Your Child's Learning at Home

If you are looking for ways to support your child's learning at home you may wish to try some of the ideas below.

Reading

  • Using the take home readers every night.
  • Reading for fun with a book of choice to build interest in reading.
  • Asking questions about the book as you read.

Writing

  • Practising writing sentences that include full stops and capital letters.
  • Using our phonetic knowledge to spell new and unfamiliar words.
  • Incorporating adjectives into writing.

Maths

  • Practise skip counting by 2's, 3's, 5's and 10's.
  • Practise simple addition and subtraction facts.
  • Encouraging reading analogue clocks and talking about the times of day.

Take Home Reading

Take home reading is well and truly underway! In Year 2 we swap our readers on the same day we visit the library and students will bring home two new books each week. Repeating the same books over the week allows time to comprehend different parts of the text and develop a deeper understanding of what we are reading.
