Year 10 Geography

EXCURSION TO COCKBURN SOUND

Exploring Coastal Changes

Our students had an exciting excursion to Cockburn Sound, starting at Warnbro Sound to examine coastal erosion and deposition around Penguin Island and Mersey Point. The journey continued through Rockingham, Kwinana and Port Coogee Marina, offering a firsthand look at our dynamic coastline.

Discovering Coastal Landscapes

Students explored coastal features formed by deposition, including spits, tombolos, beaches, bays, limestone islands and rock formations. A hands-on look at how nature shapes our shores!

Exploring Sustainable Tourism

Our students dove into the city's efforts to revitalise tourism by exploring local marine life through snorkeling, fishing and diving. Their focus? Finding ways to balance economic growth with environmental conservation.

Geography Fieldwork

Our students spent the day at Cockburn Sound, developing key skills like observation, sketch mapping and field sketching. They explored coastal processes firsthand, including erosion and the importance of primary data.

A Heartfelt Thank You

A huge thank you to Mrs Johnson for narrating the excursion and to Ms Hodgson and Mrs Richter for providing our students with this fantastic hands-on learning experience. Many boys experienced a valuable learning lesson out of the classroom.
