Year 11 Geography Excursion

On Tuesday 18 March the Year 11 Geography students spent the day at the Perth Hills Discovery Centre to learn about the Geography of fire.

With the help of experts in the field, our students learned the skills of fire tracking using weather patterns and wind speed/direction to track a fire on a topographic map. The students then went into the field to measure fuel loads in various locations to predict areas of fire risk.

The day gave students a hands-on experience in learning about fire behaviour, predicting severity of fire and influences that can make bushfires catastrophic.

The boys thoroughly enjoyed being in nature for the day and putting into practise the learnings from their classroom.
