You Are Loved

Last Wednesday was an exciting day for our Foundation students. They received a copy of their very own bible. A book bursting with stories of God’s great love for people. It is a real page turner!

This week in Worship, we touched on some of Jesus’ adventures depicted in the bible. His birth, some miracles, the way he treated people that others rejected... Jesus’ talk matched his walk. He spoke of God’s love and his actions showed what that looked like.

But was there a deeper reason for Jesus, God’s Son, spending time with his people?

You need to go back to the beginning. The bible tells us that when the world was created everything was perfect. God and his precious people lived in harmony. But then something disastrous happened.  The very first people, Adam and Eve, were deceived. They chose to disobey God and, in doing so, changed the course of history.  Sin had entered the world and brought in the consequences of separation, heartache and destruction. Sin had a penalty that needed to be paid... and the cost was great.

Even so, God still loved his people.

Years passed. People lived in darkness... Until Jesus...

When the time was right, out of great love, Jesus took on himself the sin of the world and paid the ultimate price. He gave up his life on the cross and paid the penalty for sin... For our sin. In doing so, our relationship with God is restored.

The bible goes on to tell us that death could not hold Jesus, and he rose again on the third day.

This is the message of Easter. The ultimate story of God’s love. The sacrifice of God’s son, for us... But why?

It’s because of you... and me... It’s because He loves us!

God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son. Anyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life. God did not send his son into the world to judge the world. He sent his son to save the world through him.

John 3:16, 17 NIrV

How might this (knowing you are loved this much) influence your day today?
