What's on in 5/6

SUP EVENING

On the evening of Thursday the 20th of March, students involved with the standup project hosted teachers and parents, delivering a fantastic presentation on the effects of bullying and how student intervention can help. The students all showed amazing presentation skills as they addressed the packed double classroom. They also delighted in the opportunity to assign homework sheets to all parents and teachers present, asking them to resolve a range of difficult scenarios that students might find themselves in.

TALK MONEY

In week 9, the 5/6 students attended the ‘Talk Money’ incursion to learn about financial literacy. Students had a rich discussion about how mindset can affect behaviour, particularly when it comes to money. Students found that setting short term savings goals can help build confidence, but long term goals are more rewarding.

WRITING

Students in grade 5/6 have been working on their persuasive writing skills this term. Some writing pieces have even made their way to Mr. Den Elzen’s desk, as a way of advocating for changes around the school. With their honed persuasive writing skills, students have now moved into a unit on debating, where they are practicing rebuttals as well as using their voice, eyeline and body language to make their speaking more engaging. From what we have seen already, we have some terrific public speakers in the cohort!
