Stand Up Project - SUP

As you may know, this year, 26 Grade 5/6 students have been chosen for a special role in SUP, also known as the Stand Up Project. We are empowering students to become Upstanders against discrimination, harassment, and bullying. This is a student-led program, and on Thursday, March 20th, these 26 kids became educators while the teachers and parents took the role of students. Today, we are recapping the lessons the parents were taught.

First of all, thank you to the teachers and parents for coming to the stand-up project program; it really helped. One of the most important parts we talked about was the 4 D’s help strategy. They are: Direct, where you address the problem head-on, Distract, a subtle way to intervene and check on the targeted person. Also, Delay, where you check on the target after the event, is mainly used when it is not safe to intervene at the time, and you talk to them after to check on them. Then last but not least, Delegate, where you ask a teacher, parent or guardian what is happening.

Meet our team:

As we said, we have 26 students helping, and they are all very passionate about helping students and others. We are all 5/6s, ready for the challenge of helping others.
