Value of Excellence

At SJV, excellence is more than just achieving high academic standard. It's about helping every child grow into the person God created them to be. Our students are encouraged to show excellence in their attitude, effort and behaviour.

In every classroom, the value of excellence is developed through both explicit teaching and the everyday culture of our school. Here's how it happens:

Reflection and Prayer

Prayer, reflection, and learning about the life of Jesus are woven into the daily routine, helping students connect excellence with their faith. They’re encouraged to ask themselves: Am I doing my best? Am I living like Jesus?

High Expectations

Every child is encouraged to do their best, no matter their starting point. We set challenging but achievable goals, celebrating effort and improvement as much as achievement. Growth mindset is often promoted: mistakes are seen as learning opportunities.

Personalised Support

Our teachers recognise each child’s gifts and needs, offering support and challenge where needed. Excellence is not one-size-fits-all—it’s about helping each student reach their personal potential in all areas.

Celebrations

Success is recognized in many forms: assemblies, awards, classroom displays, and simple praise. Celebrating perseverance, kindness, and improvement reinforces that excellence is about more than just test scores.

In essence, excellence is taught, modeled, and lived in the classroom every day. It becomes part of who the students are becoming—not just smart learners, but kind-hearted, faithful, and capable individuals.

We see this value in action when students are encouraged to put their learning into practice, helping others, leading in school roles, and contributing to classroom life.

Excellence isn’t just about being the best - it’s about giving your best, with love, patience, and a joyful spirit!
