Inquiry Unit: Exploring the Concept of Change

This term, our whole-school inquiry focus is change—a fitting theme as we begin exciting new building works at school! Students will explore how change affects our lives in many ways: at home, at school, and in the wider world. From food and clothing to living spaces and learning environments, change is a constant in our lives.

We encourage families to support this learning at home by discussing changes you notice together—seasonal shifts, family traditions, or even new routines. These conversations help students make meaningful connections between school and real life.

Prep students will explore change through Science, Geography, and History. They’ll look at how their local community has changed, how seasons come and go, and how living things adapt to survive.

Year 1/2 students will investigate change through biology, chemistry, physics, and earth and space science. They'll make predictions, carry out observations, and identify examples of science in their everyday surroundings, building a strong foundation in scientific thinking.

Year 3/4 students will dive into historical change, exploring how their community has evolved over time. They’ll research explorers from the Age of Exploration and examine cultural celebrations and symbols, both in Australia and around the world.

Year 5/6 students will explore change through the lens of Australian history. They’ll investigate migration stories from Europe and Asia and reflect on key events and figures that have shaped our nation. Their learning will culminate in a Museum In Motion—a student-led showcase of their historical discoveries.

Let’s embrace the term ahead as we learn, grow, and change together!
