Principal's Report

We welcome everyone back to school for term 2 after what was hopefully a restful break, time to rest and renew. Our return to school is greeted by the news of the passing of Pope Francis, the beloved leader of our Catholic Church. Pope Francis dedicated his life to serving God and others, and his kindness, humility, and compassion touched millions of people around the world.

As our Holy Father, Pope Francis reminded us of the importance of love, mercy, and caring for those most in need. He called us to be people of peace and hope, to look after the Earth, and to treat every person with dignity and respect. At school this week, we will take time to pray for Pope Francis and to give thanks for his life and leadership. We will also talk with our students about the special role of the Pope and what it means to be a true follower of Jesus. Holy Rosary Parish will be holding a memorial mass for Pope Francis at 9.15am on Saturday 26th April. Families are welcome to attend.

Staff Professional Development

Our week of staff learning was a wonderful opportunity to learn alongside all schools across the Diocese. Our deep dive into the Science of Learning with Dr. Jared Cooney Horvath (PhD, Med) was both affirming and challenging as we worked through more of the work that underpins the Magnify project and our commitment to learning and teaching for all students all of the time.

Learning conversations

Learning conversations are an integral part of our assessment and reporting schedule. They are also an important part of building positive relationships between school and family that support community and promote learning. Our term 2 learning conversations will be held, in person next week, please be sure to make a booking for Wednesday 30th April or Thursday 1st May.

2026 Enrolments

Enrolments for 2026 have opened, and I encourage families with siblings ready to begin school to ensure they contact the office for an application for enrolment. We look forward to welcoming prospective families to school (and existing) for tours during the week Monday 5th – Friday 9th May and our information night Wednesday 7th May 2025 at 7.00pm in the Rosarium. Spread the word and we look forward to celebrating our school.

Staffing

Next week will be the final week before Megan Matheson (PrepMD) leaves to begin family leave. We wish Megan and Travis all the very best for the safe arrival of their new baby in the near future. Mr. Brendan Scott will return to replace Megan in the classroom, we welcome Brendan back to Holy Rosary, he knows the school and the children, and we look forward to his return.

Sophie Taylor will also leave this week to begin family leave. Sophie has worked to support our intervention and programs and senior class extension. We wish Sophie and Cameron all the very best for the safe arrival of their new baby. We will be utilising existing staff to continue the work Sophie has been involved with.

Welcome to Liz Young who will be onsite for placement during Term 2 and working with Kris Millard. Liz is studying a Diploma of Community Services and Kris will be supervising Liz throughout her first placement.

ANZAC Day

ANZAC Day today is a special time in our lives, and we remember the men and women who have fought to protect our way of life and the freedom we have each day. In such a turbulent period of time, it is important to not take for granted what we have and the sacrifices of those that have served in the armed forces — in the past, today, and into the future.

As we pause to reflect, we honour not just the bravery shown on distant battlefields, but also the spirit of service, mateship, and resilience that continues to inspire us. Whether through quiet remembrance, community gatherings, or the symbolic laying of wreaths, we express our deep gratitude.

Lest we forget.
