As part of our Inquiry unit, The Colourful World Around Us, Foundation students recently participated in an exciting World Dance Incursion.

Students explored and celebrated cultures from around the world through music, movement and traditional dress. They learned dance styles inspired by Latin, Bollywood, African and Spanish cultures, developing new skills and confidence as they practised fun dance steps.

The incursion provided a wonderful opportunity for students to appreciate cultural diversity, express themselves creatively and experience the many colourful ways people celebrate around the world.

Level 1 students have been busy the past fortnight engaging in a range of hands-on learning experiences that encouraged creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration.

Inquiry - Students explored the concept of push and pull forces by designing and building domino tracks. They carefully planned the placement of their dominoes and investigated how a push can create a chain reaction. Through trial and error, students developed problem-solving skills while observing how forces cause movement.

It was wonderful to see their excitement as their domino tracks successfully tumbled from start to finish!

Mindfulness - Students participated in a calming Rainy Day Painting activity.

Using a range of colours and creative techniques, they painted rainy scenes while focusing on being present and mindful. This relaxing activity encouraged students to express their emotions through art and provided an opportunity to slow down, concentrate, and enjoy the creative process.

They loved adding glitter to their finished products and sprinkling it on our Fairy Garden!

Literacy - Students completed a Big Write based on the traditional story Wombat Stew. They explored the structure of procedural texts and practised writing clear, sequenced instructions.

Students included ingredients, and step-by-step methods to create their own versions of a wombat stew recipe.

Through fun activities, they created meaningful moments to document their recount writing genre.

The result? Vibrant writing that captures joy, great sequencing and creativity.

This fortnight has been jam-packed with exciting and engaging learning opportunities!

Earlier last week, we participated in a Mad About Science incursion where we explored heat and energy and learned how they can be transferred. It was a fantastic hands-on experience, and students loved having the opportunity to conduct the experiments themselves while making connections to our classroom learning.

We also completed our final Morning Move Your Mind session. Throughout the program, students developed important skills such as problem-solving, challenging stereotypes, and understanding the importance of asking for permission, all through fun and active learning experiences.

To finish off our unit on heat, students were challenged to build the "Coolest Lunchbox". Working in teams, they designed and created their own lunchboxes using a variety of materials to investigate which would best insulate ice and slow down melting.

Students spent lots of time planning, designing, decorating, and collaborating with their teammates.

Level 4 students have been busy exploring the world of measurement through hands‑on rotations this week.

Working in small groups, students investigated length, mass/weight, capacity, and temperature using real‑life tools and practical challenges.

Each rotation encouraged students to estimate, measure, compare, and record their findings while building confidence with formal units such as metres, grams, litres, and degrees Celsius.

The activities helped students understand how measurement connects to everyday life—whether they’re reading a thermometer, comparing the weight of objects, or measuring the length of a space.

Level 5 Shadow Puppet Shows

As part of our Inquiry unit on Light, Level 5 students created and performed their own shadow puppet shows. Working in groups, they wrote scripts with a clear moral, designed and built their own shadow puppets, and used their understanding of light and shadows to bring their stories to life.

We were impressed by their creativity, teamwork and enthusiasm throughout the task!
