In The Classroom

Exercise Science
Our Year 9 students have been enjoying their Exercise Science elective this semester. Hear what some of our students had to say:
Mia Gray - 9H
I have enjoyed everything about exercise science. I found it very interesting and all of the content we learnt was fun. Learning about all the body systems and what they all do for the body. The sessions in the exercise room were also a lot of fun. Having the challenges in the exercise room were also fun
Ruby Tran-Nguyen - 9H
I enjoyed learning about the body systems and working in pairs to revise for the test. Not only that, but I also liked the little mini games that we played throughout the semester to help us learn the content
Hrishi Thakar - 9F
I enjoyed how we got to work out most lessons and learn things that we never knew. I also enjoyed the team challenges in the gym because it shows that teamwork is really important during hard activities
Kulsev Singh - 9J
I liked how calm and self-centred it was. We could work out during the sessions to help improve our physical health and improve our exercise technique which was something new to learn. Overall, a really good subject
Year 8 Science - Energy Pyramids
Our Year 8 Science students are currently exploring ecosystems and investigating how energy is transferred through living organisms. As part of their assessment, they are designing and constructing their own Energy Pyramids.
This unit focuses on the roles of producers, primary consumers, secondary consumers, and tertiary consumers within ecosystems. Students are developing an understanding of how energy flows through food chains and food webs, while recognising that the amount of available energy decreases at each successive level of the pyramid.
Through this engaging, hands-on project, students are working on a variety of ecosystems, identifying the organisms that inhabit them, and presenting their findings through creative and informative pyramid models. The task provides an opportunity for students to apply their scientific knowledge while strengthening their research, design, and communication skills.
Through this task, students are developing their research, design, and communication skills while building their understanding of how living things depend on each other.
Year 9 Graphic Design
Graphic Design is a Year 9 elective that introduces students to the exciting world of Visual Communication Design. Throughout the semester, students learnt how designers used colour, imagery, typography and layout to communicate ideas to a specific audience. Students explored the design process by creating a brand identity for a new bubble tea shop. They developed logo concepts, designed packaging and promotional materials, and learnt how to use both hand-drawing techniques and Adobe software to bring their ideas to life.
Lina Halimeh (9A)
I chose my colour palette to be softer and more pastel to attract people who are into cuter aesthetics, rather than those into bolder or brighter ones. Using digital materials (drawing software) helps with accurately creating solid shapes and selecting specific colours. With more time, I would try to use minimal colours, to create a more memorable and simpler logo design, as well as trying to create a unique silhouette, similar to successful brands.
Aanvi Samreddy (9B)
Graphic Design is a subject where we create logos, products, and other visual designs. It is mainly used to communicate ideas, convey messages, and solve problems through visual communication. In Graphic Design, I learned how to create a logo and apply it to a product by designing a paper bag for my brand. One area I found challenging was analysing the artworks of well-known graphic designers, as it required a deeper understanding of their design choices and techniques.
Aaron Sharma (9E)
The Bubba Tea logo endorses warm, duotone, light colors with a BUBBA darker, constrasting color for people interested in simplistic colors and a superflat layout. The bright colors pop out on the drink's smooth gradient and the purple color which stays on the opposite side of the hue of the warmer pastel yellows and reds and is less of an emphasis playing a role in just the logo's background. The more desaturated, divided colors of the same dominant pastel yellows and reds appears in the cup's main view, creating a unique approach to brand recognision from the "theme" colors it introduces.
Abdul Siddiqui (9E)
My logo represents a blue coloured background with tapioca bubbles, surrounded by stars. I chose these colours because it creates a soft and gentle mood that is welcoming anyone to someone who wants have and enjoy the delight of boba. I mainly focused on the design element "colour" to offer a mellow and easygoing feeling whenever you see this logo, providing a sense of ease. My target audience is for anyone who likes and enjoys boba, being welcome for anyone at any age. This design is effective because the simplicity of the logo attracts many people due to how straightforward the colours and text are laid out.
Chinese Fan Design
Our Year 8 Chinese students have been busy designing their Chinese fans this week. They learned about the history of Chinese fans and how fan-making evolved from the use of feathers to paper in modern times. Students also learned several Chinese poems to include on their fans and decorated them with beautiful traditional Chinese themes, such as cherry blossoms, dragons, mountains and water, fish and pavilions. They added many intricate details and were very proud of what they created.
Laws & Outlaws - Courtroom Presentation
In groups, students presented a courtroom-style argument about a real legal or ethical case, arguing both sides and a final judgement. This assessment focused on constructing arguments and using evidence. Students developed their skills in legal reasoning, perspective-taking, and collaborative decision-making.
- Ms Lilo
Adisyn (9F)
In laws and outlaws, we focused on debating and learnt to use proper legal reasoning. we learnt how to interact with each other in a courtroom respectfully and express our opinions in creative ways. the elective was extremely fun, and everyone enjoyed it. It's definitely one of the best electives due to the collaboration and topics we looked at. Ms Lilo made the class really fun and always got everyone to participate. She's a very fun and engaging teacher which made the elective engaging.
Prabh (9F) and Ahsan (9C)
This was an interesting elective, in the best way possible! It definitely required a lot of hard work, but we had great peers who supported us and challenged our thinking. We looked at court cases, case studies, debates, justice, and more. At the start, we weren’t the best at it, but by the end, we were more experienced than we ever thought we could be. Overall, it was a really fun elective.
Haylie (9H)
In laws and outlaws this semester we learnt about many interesting topics such as historical unjust laws, analysing famous court cases, how to debate in a courtroom, and ethical reasoning within the law and court system etc. My favourite thing about this class was getting to understand the system works and giving our own options and reasoning about certain cases etc and having Ms Lilo who is very passionate about teaching laws and outlaws.
Soul Sonics - Year 9 Music Incursion
Our Year 9 Music students recently participated in an exciting music incursion presented by the Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series (VCES). The Soul Sonics program was led by a professional DJ and music artist who brought their industry expertise and passion for music education to the classroom.
Throughout the workshop, students explored a range of contemporary music production techniques, including field recording, where they captured sounds from around the school environment. They then learned how to edit and manipulate these recordings using digital production tools to create unique musical elements.
The incursion culminated in students composing and performing original works using Ableton Live software and Push hardware, providing a hands on experience with industry standard music technology.
This valuable learning opportunity directly supported the students’ unit of study on Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) and soundscape creation, helping them develop both their technical skills and creative confidence as emerging music producers.
