Year 2 Explores George’s Marvellous Medicine
This term, Year 2 enjoyed a novel study of Roald Dahl’s George’s Marvellous Medicine. Students explored character development, expanded their vocabulary, completed a range of writing activities and created artworks inspired by the story.
The highlight of the unit was attending a live performance of George’s Marvellous Medicine by Shake & Stir Theatre Co. Following the excursion, students compared the stage production with the novel, discussing the similarities and differences between the two. It was a wonderful learning experience that students thoroughly enjoyed.
Rod Sommerville presents to Year 5 students
Year 5 students prepared a series of thoughtful questions for guest speaker Rod Sommerville ahead of his visit on Monday, June 22, which marked the culmination of their Science unit, Space: What’s Out There? During his presentation, Mr Sommerville challenged students to think beyond our Solar System and consider the possibility of life on other planets, inspiring curiosity and deeper thinking.
He also gave the students exciting future events to look forward to when they reach Year 7, including a partial lunar eclipse on July 7, a total solar eclipse on July 22, and a total lunar eclipse on December 31, as well as the anticipated Artemis Moon missions.
Mr Sommerville explained how the tilt of the Earth causes the seasons as our planet orbits the Sun, helping students connect complex scientific ideas to real-world phenomena. Although many questions remain, such as “How far does the universe extend?” and “What do other planets look like?”, his visit has certainly sparked a lasting sense of wonder and curiosity among the Year 5 students.

Year 6 Canberra Excursion
The Year 6 students from Kinross Wolaroi School enjoyed an engaging and memorable 3 day visit to Canberra, providing rich opportunities to deepen their understanding of Australian history, democracy, culture and national identity.
Students visited Questacon, where they explored interactive exhibits and investigated scientific concepts through hands-on activities. At Old Parliament House and Parliament House, they gained valuable insights into Australia's democratic system and participated in a highly engaging role-play experience in which they worked collaboratively to debate and pass a bill, experiencing the legislative process firsthand.
The group visited the National Gallery of Australia, where students examined significant artworks and learned about prominent Australians and influential figures from history. A visit to the Australian War Memorial provided an opportunity to reflect on the conflicts that have shaped Australia and to develop an appreciation for the courage and sacrifice of those who have served their country.
A visit to Geoscience Australia allowed students to learn about Australia's landscapes, natural resources and the important role that science plays in understanding and managing our environment. Students also enjoyed a tour of the Royal Australian Mint, where they discovered how Australian coins are designed and produced and learned about the history of Australia's currency.
Students toured the Australian Institute of Sport, gaining an understanding of the dedication and science behind elite athletic performance. From the summit of Mount Ainslie Lookout, they enjoyed panoramic views of Canberra and observed how the city’s design reflects its national significance. Exploring the various international embassies offered fascinating insights into different cultures and Australia’s diplomatic relationships with countries around the world.
At the Museum of Australian Democracy, students further developed their understanding of the rights and responsibilities of Australian citizens and the evolution of democracy in Australia. Students braved the rain to visit the National Canberra Zoo and Aquarium where they got to learn about endangered species and feed the emu and alpacas, and, to round off a busy and rewarding week, students enjoyed some well-earned recreation and teamwork at Zone 3, where endless laser tag provided plenty of excitement and fun.
The Canberra excursion was an outstanding success, bringing classroom learning to life and fostering greater appreciation of Australia’s history, democracy, culture and national institutions. The students represented Kinross Wolaroi School with pride, demonstrating maturity, respect and a willingness to embrace every opportunity throughout the trip.

Pyjama Day at Pre-Kinder
What a fun and cosy day we had celebrating Pyjama Day at Pre-Kinder. The children and teachers arrived dressed in their favourite pyjamas ready for a day filled with comfort laughter and learning. Throughout the day our usual activities were given a special bedtime twist, with stories, games and imaginative play all inspired by our cosy theme. One of the highlights was bringing along a bedtime toy to share in the day. Then to end our day, we settled together for a warm cup of hot chocolate, some popcorn, and a movie. Snuggled up in our pyjamas with our special bedtime toy.
Winter Pyjama Day
On Tuesday 23 June, Junior School students celebrated the end of Term 2 with a fun-filled Winter Pyjama Day. Students enjoyed spending the day in their cosy pyjamas, creating a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere across the school.
A big thank you to the SRC students for organising this wonderful event and for raising funds to support the development of the handball courts.
