Last Thursday, our Music and Drama students presented a wonderful showcase of their work from this term, delighting the audience with an engaging evening of performance.

Our Year 10 Music class kicked things off with a performance of ‘Rein Me In’, and the evening concluded with an energetic arrangement of Michael Jackson’s Don’t Stop ’Til You Get Enough by the Year 9 Music class.

The Year 10 Drama class entertained us with a series of short films—many featuring familiar faces from the audience, much to everyone’s amusement! These creative pieces highlighted the students’ storytelling and filmmaking talents.

Some of our Year 12 Drama students delivered powerful performances that at times had us laughing out loud.

It was a fantastic night celebrating the Performing Arts and showcasing the creativity, talent, and dedication of our students. Events like this give a wonderful insight into what students can look forward to when choosing elective Music and Drama.

We had the opportunity to participate in the annual Sydney Symphony Orchestra PlayerLink organisation in Armidale from Friday to Sunday. These three days involved intensive rehearsals with the whole orchestra, along with sectional tutorials with the professional members of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

Phoebe's personal tutor was Chris Tingay, a dedicated clarinettist and the second clarinettist of the SSO, contributing to the Orchestra for over three decades while also inspiring young students through orchestras, music camps, and educational programs.

Charlotte had the privilege to be mentored by Noriko Shimada, an internationally acclaimed bassoonist and principal contrabassoonist for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, known for her work with leading orchestra's, contemporary groups, extensive recordings, and her commitment to nurturing young musicians through music education.

The final performance on the Sunday afternoon featured pieces ranging from Raiders of the Lost Ark, by John Williams to Danse Macabre by Camille Saint-Saëns, featuring one of the SSO's first violinist's Sophie Cole.

This event was highly influential and educational, providing a wide-range of regional high-school musicians with valuable orchestra experience.

On Thursday, 18 June, our senior school dancers proudly represented the school at the Dubbo Dance Eisteddfod. Performing a lyrical routine to Shark Fin Blues by Missy Higgins, the piece was beautifully choreographed by Lara Duncan and Jasmine Dodd.

In what was a highly competitive event, our students delivered an outstanding performance, achieving an impressive score of 93 points and earning a Highly Commended award. Our students were complimented on their hard work and preparation which was reflected in their performance, representing the school well.

Thank you for your support in helping the dancers compete, particularly MIC’s who allowed these dancers to attend extra sessions in the lead up so that we could finish the routine!
