Long Hollow Heathland
Just across from Beaumaris Secondary College lies one of Bayside's most significant natural treasures – Long Hollow Heathland.
This small reserve is considered the most biodiverse remnant heathland in Bayside and provides a rare glimpse into the landscape that once covered much of the local area. Home to more than 120 indigenous plant species, including several rare orchids, the heathland is recognised for its state-significant vegetation and ongoing conservation efforts.
The site takes its name from the historic "Long Hollow" swampy gully that once extended through the area, including land now occupied by Beaumaris Secondary College. Thanks to decades of work by conservationists and community volunteers, this fragile remnant of Bayside's natural past continues to be protected for future generations.
