Chamber Strings play at Ivanhoe Garden Club’s 120th Anniversary Dinner

On Tuesday night, Ashley L (6RJ), Caleb (5W), Max (6M), Niamh (6T), Olivia (6R), Oscar (6RJ), Sally (5W) and Santiago (6RJ) went to play at the Ivanhoe Garden Club’s 120th Anniversary dinner. The garden club’s first ever meeting was held at Ivanhoe Primary School and students from IPS have played for garden club events over the years. The students performed “Bamboo Cowboy” very well and then were all given a cactus and some chocolate as a thank you.

About the night, here is what some students said:

Santiago: I thought it was very interesting seeing everybody having fun at the garden club ready for dinner, having laughs and it was a very fun experience for all of us.

Oscar: I was a bit nervous at the start, but once I started playing it wasn’t really that hard actually.

Ashley: It was really fun. Everyone was listening to us. It was fun to have a gig.

Olivia: It was enjoyable and exciting. It was enjoyable because we had been practising the song for half a term. And it was exciting to be able to play it in front of an actual audience. I think receiving the cactus was cool. Since it was a garden party, it was a memory that you are able to grow.

Choir for the Night of Music got off to a good start in Term 2

The 54 members of the choir have been rehearsing on Friday mornings for the last few weeks.

Here is what some students have said about choir:

Charlie (4K): Choir is fun and we’ve got four songs: Adiemus, Blackbird, Oolalalay and Naughty from Matilda.

Mrs Green has made it extra fun. She doesn’t just tell us what to say, she makes it mean something. She uses expression and experience.

Meika (5CK): With choir it helps me express my feelings and I like singing with other people in harmony. All that hard work pays off when you get to perform in front of a lot of people with orchestra and everybody else.

It’s really fun and I would recommend it. I have done it since Grade 3 and now I am in Grade 5. It is one of the very fun things I do in this school.

The teacher, Mrs Green, she’s really nice. She’ll help you with your vocals and get the pitches right. She’s nice and gentle and she’s really good at singing. She’ll explain to you what you’re doing wrong or if it’s good.

Enjoy the holidays everyone! See you back again in Week 1!

Exciting things to look forward to in Term 3 include:

  • Start Up Strings starting individual lessons.
  • Corelli Strings, Choir and Orchestra performing at the Night of Music concert on Saturday 5th September. Woo. Hoo!
