Seymour Show Success!
Congratulations to our Primary students who won prizes at the Seymour Show. It is a testament to your talent, our wonderful teachers and the curriculum we offer.
The Seymour College Community Poppy Project was awarded the Community Award at the Seymour Show.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this amazing project, making this possible!
On behalf of the Seymour College Community Poppy Project, Kelly and Isobel would like to extend an enormous thank you to everyone who has been part of the project over the last 4 years.
The project has been so amazingly successful and we could not be more proud and thankful for the support from our incredible community!
This has been a project to honour the service of our Australian soldiers, nurses, and the animals who fought and continue to fight for our country in wars around the globe.
The display is in our foyer until after Remembrance Day if you would like to view it.
Melbourne Royal Show Success!
🎉 Congratulations Seymour College Cattle Show Team! 🐄🏅
We’re incredibly proud of our Seymour College Cattle Show Stock Team, who represented our school with excellence at the Melbourne Royal Show!
Our students demonstrated outstanding skill, professionalism, and dedication in the Handler Classes, showcasing the hard work and teamwork that goes into preparing and presenting cattle at a professional level.
A huge thank you to our Agriculture teacher Mrs McClaren, industry mentors – especially Annie from Limitless Cattle Show Supplies, Livestock handler Bryce McClaren and all of the supporters who make these opportunities possible — helping our students gain hands-on experience, confidence, and lifelong skills in agriculture. 🌾💪
👏 Well done Team Seymour – you’ve done us proud!
The Victorian Teachers Games
🎉 Teachers Take Gold at the Victorian Teachers Games! 🥇🧀
While students were off on holidays, our teachers were out winning medals and striking poses at the Victorian Teachers Games!
Day 1 featured the Amazing Race, and one of our teams took gold! 👏 Huge shoutout to Ms. Boote, whose art teacher super-vision helped lead the charge. 👀🎨
There were puzzles, checkpoints, and some very questionable poses — think:🎸 Air Guitar🥋 Kung-Fu Kick🧠 The Thinker(Yes, we have photos.)
We wrapped up the day with a giant pot of cheese fondue, because… balance. 🫕✨
🏸🎳 Victorian Teachers Games – Day 2 🏀🥉
Our staff traded lesson plans for shuttlecocks, basketballs and bowling shoes on Day 2 of the Victorian Teachers Games!
The day kicked off with badminton, where Mr. Cilia stepped in as a last-minute ring-in — and somehow managed to smash it (pun fully intended). 😅 Meanwhile, Mr. Thorne and Ms. Gao came this close to a medal… heartbreakingly close. 🥲
Then it was onto basketball and ten-pin bowling, because why not burn off the fondue from Day 1 with some friendly fire and flying pins? 🎳🏀
🥏🔫 Victorian Teachers Games – Day 3 💥🥇🥉
Day 3 saw our teachers out on the battlefield with Ultimate Frisbee, Table Tennis and Laser Strike on the schedule!
Frisbee was all good vibes, epic throws, and wholesome team huddles at the end. 🌟🥏 Nothing like bonding over trying (and failing) to look cool while sprinting in the wind.
Major props to Mr. Lazzaro, and yes — that’s Mr. Piacquadio, back from banishment, casually snagging bronze at table tennis like it’s no big deal. 🏓🥉 Icons.
But the real laser-focused moment came when we took home gold (again!) in Laser Strike! 🥇💪
Shoutout to Mr. Story, who channelled his gaming prowess and absolutely dominated. Turns out all those hours of video games were just… training for greatness. 🎮😎
More updates to come — and yes, the teachers were somehow still standing.
🥒🏓 Victorian Teachers Games – Day 4 Update! 🪵😅
Pickleball: the sport of strategy, speed… and spectacular spoon-worthy moments.Day 4 saw our teachers take to the court with paddles in hand and pride on the line. 🎾💥
While some aimed for glory, Mr. Lovini and Mr. Thorne achieved something far more elusive — the coveted wooden spoon. 🪵👏 And yes, they wore it like a badge of honour.
Pickleball may have been the final event, but the spirit of the Victorian Teachers Games lives on — in sore muscles, shared laughs, and two spoons that now have pride of place in the math and humanities offices.
Stay tuned for the spoon-polishing ceremony. 🥄✨
Year 12 V's Teachers Volleyball Match
On Monday 15 September a Year 12 team faced a staff team for a volleyball match. The teachers were winning for most of the game, however the Year 12 students came back and grabbed the win, 32 to 31 being the final score. How close - congratulations to the student team - well deserved!
Indian Cultural Immersion Day
The Indian Cultural Immersion Day was held on Wednesday 8 October as part of the Connecting Schools with Indian Communities Project, funded by the Department of Education’s International Education Division. The day aimed to promote awareness, respect, and inclusion by introducing Year 8 and 9 students to Indian traditions, festivals, art, music, and language.
Students began the day with a forum in the Art Centre, where guest speakers shared their personal stories, cultural experiences, and insights into life in Australia. This was followed by a rotation of hands-on workshops led by Indian cultural specialists, including Henna, Indian Cooking, Violin, Drumming, Rakhi Making, Bollywood Dancing, and Cricket. Teachers supervised and supported each activity while students immersed themselves in learning and cultural exchange.
The day was a collaboration between Seymour College, the Federation of Indian Associations of Victoria, and the Mental Health Foundation Australia. Young representatives from MHFA attended to promote wellbeing and intercultural connection through the arts. Volunteers were welcomed with morning tea in the staffroom, and support was available throughout the day for students requiring additional assistance.
Overall, the event successfully celebrated cultural diversity, encouraged inclusion, and provided students with meaningful opportunities to respect, inspire, and excel through shared learning and understanding.
Clay Target Championships
On Monday 13 October, Aiden, Dylan, Sam, Tabitha, Jed and Adam represented Seymour College at the annual Clay Target Championships in Benalla. The competition was tough with 10 stations and 3 targets to shoot at each for a perfect score of 30.
Our best performer was Jed, who scored 24/30, which was enough to earn him second spot amongst the "New Boys" for students who participated in this event for the first time. Jed borrowed a shotgun and was coached by the very patient Mr Terry Griffiths.
Our second best performer was Adam, who scored a total of 22/30, also in his first ever school competition.
Our third best performer was Dylan, who scored a total of 18/30.
The event was run by the members of the Benalla Field and Game Club and was well attended by schools from the region, and as far as Lilydale, who were the eventual winners.
Special thanks to Jason Turner, father of Tabitha, and Rob Martin, father of Adam, for helping out with supervision and scoring.
The day was beautiful, and our students were great.
Thank you and congratulations to all participants.
