Welcome to Term 4!

Welcome back to Term 4, everyone! We can hardly believe we have reached the final term of the year. It is always a special one, filled with exciting events, rich learning, and plenty of opportunities to celebrate how far we have come. There is a real buzz in the air as we get ready for what promises to be a memorable Term 4. One of the biggest highlights on the calendar is our Year Level Camp at Cave Hill Creek, taking place from Monday 20th to Wednesday 22nd October. Camp is always a favourite for our learners, where it is a chance to step outside the classroom, build independence, try new activities, and create lasting memories with friends. Further information can be founnd on the Compass Newsfeed “Year 4 Camp – Important Information.”
In English, we will be diving into Explanation Texts and Poetry. Students will learn how to unpack big ideas and explain them clearly, using their writing to teach and inform others. Then we will switch gears and explore the creative world of poetry, playing with rhythm, language, and imagery to bring our thoughts and feelings to life. It is always wonderful to see our learners surprise themselves with what they can create.
Our Reading program will continue to build strong discussion and comprehension skills through Literature Circles. Working in small groups, learners will take on different roles, share their ideas, ask thoughtful questions, and explore stories in deeper and more meaningful ways. These sessions always lead to lively conversations and plenty of ‘aha!’ moments.
In Mathematics, we have a full and exciting term ahead. We will be exploring Data Investigations, strengthening our understanding of Fractions, Decimals and Percentages, and revisiting the four operations to sharpen strategies and fluency. Learners will have plenty of chances to connect their learning to real life situations and to tackle problems in creative ways.
Our Inquiry unit this term asks the big question: ‘How might we use physical science in design?’ Learners will think like scientists and inventors as they explore forces, motion and energy. Learners will have the opportunity to design and test solutions to real world problems, combining creativity with scientific thinking in hands on, practical ways.
Finally, in Wellbeing and Cybersafety, we will be focusing on kindness, empathy, mindfulness and gratitude. As the year comes to a close, it is important that students take time to reflect on their growth, celebrate their achievements, and support one another to finish the year on a positive note, both in person and online.
We are looking forward to a fantastic Term 4, filled with learning, laughter and special moments as we make the most of this final stretch together. Let’s make it a term to remember!
