Congratulations to the 160 performers who delighted the audience at Presentation Night. The musical diversity of the College Music Program was demonstrated by the String Orchestra, the Middle and Senior School Choirs, the 5/6 Musical and College Musical casts, the Year 12 Music Class and the Jazz Band. Our College Captain, Nathan Yuan performed a violin solo during the procession. The Symphonic Band, who was missing several members due to camps, recorded an impressive video that was played.

Dylan Gekas, who achieved the highest VCE result in 2024, shared his insights at Presentation Night ;
…there are two aspects of the college that I want to bring to your attention. The first is the music program; I took guitar lessons from Greg Stone for 10 years, and the school gave me countless opportunities to perform and find myself on stage. I didn’t always sound good, I’m sure you can imagine a rock band full of 11-year-olds, but it helped develop a passion and confidence within myself that is so often difficult to find as a teenager. So, I hope that Overnewton will continue to embrace a music program that prioritises the excitement and enjoyment of students.
The second is the teachers….
Dylan’s insight into the value of music at the College is valuable. It is interesting also to note how many of the recent duxes and Year 12 student leaders have been Performing Arts students.

On Thursday 6th November at 7pm there is an information evening for families interested in involving their students in the Music Program. If you would like to attend, please register here.
