Student Engagement & Wellbeing

At Keysborough College we believe that every student has the right to learn and every teacher has the right to teach in a calm, respectful, and supportive environment. We have been focusing this year on strengthening processes and preparing for the implementation of our new School Wide Positive Behaviour Framework. Students will be commencing Headstart with a very clear and explicit understanding of the positive behaviours we expect all our students to demonstrate. These behaviours are based on the Positive Behaviour Management Strategies.
Positive Behaviour Management is based on the idea that students are more likely to behave well when they understand expectations, experience consistent boundaries, and receive recognition for their efforts. We emphasise encouragement, consistency, and connection through reinforcing our School values of Respect, Excellence and Diversity.
Key Strategies we are focusing on include;
Clear ExpectationsWe will explicitly teach our school values and behaviour expectations in all areas—classrooms, school ground, online and out in our community. Students will know what respectful, safe, and responsible behaviour looks like and sounds like.
Positive ReinforcementWe acknowledge and celebrate students who demonstrate positive behaviours through verbal praise, reward systems, certificates, and house points. This helps students see the link between their choices and positive outcomes.
Consistent RoutinesPredictable routines help students feel safe and secure. When they know what to expect, they can focus more easily on learning and making good choices.
Restorative PracticesWhen things go wrong, we focus on restoring relationships and helping students reflect on their behaviour. Through guided conversations, students take responsibility, repair harm, and learn how to make better choices in the future.
Positive Behaviour Management builds a sense of belonging, promotes self-discipline, and helps students develop the social and emotional skills they need for life. When students feel respected, understood, and valued, they are more likely to engage positively in all areas of their lives.
