Religious Education

Dear Parents and Carers
We have been celebrating National Reconciliation Week (Wed 27th May - Wed 3rd June) with students and our community.
Today our newly selected FIRE carriers attended the Sandhurst Diocese 'Mass of Healing and Justice' held at St Mel's, Shepparton. This was a great experience for our students and provided a great opportunity to meet other FIRE carriers and make friends from other schools. They participated in the choir and had other significant roles to play. It was a positive way to celebrate and understand the importance of National Reconciliation Week.
New FIRE Carriers 2026
After a comprehensive application and interview process, our new FIRE carrier leaders were selected. In the past becoming a FIRE carrier was uniquely for grade 6 students, however, we decided last year it would be a good opportunity for our Grade 5s to apply and begin their leadership journey by becoming a FIRE carrier. I was impressed with the effort of all applicants and most importantly for the reasons why many of our grade fives wanted to be a FIRE carrier at St Luke’s.
Students were able to articulate what a FIRE carrier represents and what they would like to do if they were to become a FIRE carrier. The acronym FIRE stands for Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education. We look forward to working alongside these very capable young leaders and look forward to what they can achieve. An official commissioning of our new FIRE carriers will take place early in term 3.

Pentecost
Last Sunday, 24th May, was Pentecost Sunday. The season of Easter concludes with the feast of Pentecost. On Pentecost we celebrate the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Disciples who were gathered 50 days after the death of Jesus at Easter. This event marks the beginning of the Catholic Church.
The following video gives a child friendly (and adult friendly) explanation of Pentecost.
Last Saturday night we celebrated a lovely combined school mass with St Brendan's. Thank you to the families who came and helped out on the night. Your support was greatly appreciated.
Bike Tinkering Program at St Luke’s
Our Bike Tinkering program continues to be a wonderful example of learning, connection, and community in action at St Luke’s.
Working alongside participants from Shepparton Access, our students have the opportunity to engage in meaningful, hands-on activities as they repair, maintain, and learn about bikes together. The program is more than just working on bikes, our students have recently made cricket bats of which they played an inclusive game of cricket on the oval.
It builds confidence, encourages teamwork, and strengthens communication as students collaborate with people of diverse needs in our local community. Through these shared experiences, our students develop empathy, patience, and a deeper understanding of inclusion, while participants from Shepparton Access enjoy a supportive and engaging environment where their contributions are valued.
We are proud to see the positive relationships forming through this initiative and the mutual benefits it brings—practical skills, growing confidence, and a stronger, more connected community.
Have a wonderful few weeks ahead.

Diocesan and School Theme
This year our school theme is: Seek Peace and Pursue it. For leaders, educators, students, and families, this theme is both a challenge and a compass. It reminds us that peace is not the absence of conflict, but the presence of justice, mercy, and love. It calls us to be peacemakers in our schools, homes, communities, and hearts. And it affirms that the pursuit of peace is not optional, it is essential to the mission of Catholic leadership.
In 2026, may we not only seek peace, but pursue it with courage, humility, and hope.
